  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- RED MOTION MOUNT

Also, is the linear polarization in the Motion Mount horizontal or vertical?

Hi Jason - If you have the chance to test out the Motion Mount while using strobes, I would love to hear any results you can offer an opinion on.

I'm gonna try at least flashes if not strobes. will make a detailed report later in the week for sure on everything.

Jarred if you need someone to try out the dragon and or motion mount on a black and white music video this month in NYC. I have a video for Nikolai beddingfield (Natasha beddingfield sister) gonna have projectors and possibly flashes running on a lot of the piece. Give me a shout if we can put any gear through its paces!!! Especially if we could give the canon mount motion mount a go... Probably shooting on rokinon ef mount glass

In the Philippines.. and right now we are waiting for the typhoon to pass but that will be gone in a day or so and then back to the supper sunny conditions.
Im listing...
Where are you?

Crap.. too bad. :( take care of yourself.

The more I think in my head of how my new camera set up will be with the Red Motion Mount, the more I am liking the future to come... ;)

Yeah, even so I will still be carrying an MB in most situation, as the shading provided by an MB is and extremely important factor in the extra punch in the image inmost situation, it will be a NAKED one.

Just the MB with a Swing Away Arm and depending on scenarios the Flags, so I can say it will be incredibly lighter and more manageable, and for this the Red Motion Mount will be a Dream come thru for sure, and can't wait for M8 to sport one... ;)

No rotating 138mm filter tray...
No 1/2/3 filter stages...
No more case of filters to log around...
No more time loss for swapping and cleaning filters...
No more constant buying new filters do to breakage...
No more worrying about... S^%$# I wish I had put a Pola in it...

+ Added Blockage stops and Polarization, without the need to stack ND's to Pola, which will results no doubt in better overall images, as any one that truly knows glass will tell you, that the less glass you put in front of your lens the better... ;)

Bottom line, the RED MOTION MOUNT will really become IMO one of those things that most Pro's will not want to do without on their cameras.

It would seem to me that matteboxes like the Bright Tangerine line will be really valuable as you can "pop out" the stages to be single to triple when needed especially with the Motion Mount.

Absolutely, but also MB's such as the RED MB, with their super lightweight specifics will also become more in the ever before, for me I don't really see myself using anything else as far as filters with the Red Motion Mount, but then again this could change, as I haven't used one as of yet, but I am pretty sure form the specs it reads like I won't, making the lighter the MB the most desirable ones to have for most situations, while on the other hand, an MB that could allow for a quick tool-less add on and or removal of it's filter trays to be a better choice vs. other that might take longer and hard ware to do so.

It'd be sweet if you could trigger automated ND changes... kind of like riding the iris of yore, but whilst keeping the aperture the same. e.g. dolly shot going from outside to inside, as your cross the door-way you trigger the ND change, and as you make it inside the ND rolls off.Is that possible?

I thought I saw Jarred post about that the other day, I haven't figured out how to do that if its enabled in this build. I'd assume it's not based on that seeming like a post 'release' option but that's speculation on my part.

It would also be great to have a kind of aperture priority mode: set your exposure, then adjust your aperture to get desired depth of field, and motion mount automatically compensates to keep the exposure constant (with warning if you go outside available range). If it is fast and accurate enough, you could do this while shooting, ie pull from shallow to deep depth-of-field in one shot without changing the exposure.

THAT would be cool. Aperture Priority in motion footage using auto-changing ND... (possibly ISO meta-data too). It would also be cool if RAW capable NLEs would allow for ISO ramping via keyframes.
