  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- RED MOTION MOUNT

Just catched up on this thread. LOL
What a tease, Jarred must have had fun.

Cool to see the canon-version finally in pictures.

Yessss, i want one! :)

Man what I wouldn't do to get one of these out here on location.. Blinding white sandy beaches...Oh well can't have everything.. Orrrrrrrr are you listening RED

Where are you?

I have something very cool on my Epic right now and will be posting more about it over the next few days. :)
So looks like the PL and canon motion mount is gonna use a gun metal color to identify it from a regular mount?

Any further word on the PL motion mount with lenses like the Optimo DP's?? Just curious if that protruding rear element is still workable with the MM??

Would love a Nikon mount... but a Canon mount is on the list.

Ditto for me as well...

And please feel free to ship the PL motion mount over as soon as you can!

From what I understand the Motion Mount PL is not compatible with the Angénieux Optimo DP Series of lenses, "...including the Optimo DP 30-80 and the Optimo DP 16-42. The flange depth for these lenses does not meet the standard specification for PL lenses, so using these lenses with the MOTION MOUNT TI PL will break the glass in the lens mount."

Not a chance for the Optimos with a deep rear element.. it barely clears the OLPF as it is.

@Jarred - Can we get a quick summary or image on how the Motion Mount comes up in the camera's menu/overlay and if anything has changed in terms of controlling it? Curious how we'll be using it. Thanks.

Here is a screenshot of the menu for the motion mount. Still a few items to tweak but gives you the general idea. Jason since he is swinging one around now can post later what everything does. And obviously you can map whatever hard buttons you want to controls so you can have your handle rocker etc. modify ND valules etc on the fly without going into the menus.

Exactly,
I currently have my +/- rocker on my side handle set to Increment/Decrement ND and the 3 buttons to the left of the "ABCD" SH buttons to: ND Only, Soft Shutter and Square Shutter.

I'll post what each looks like after I bang on this thing for a day or 2.

Very cool hardware, Just bought a stack of ND filter in the mean time but having this pup would definitely make light weight rigs awesome. Plus gives more room in the front trays for effect filters... So much fun stuff coming out soon makes it hard to concentrate! haha

That's what I figured, but just wanted the clarification. Thanks. :)

Very interesting. How responsive are the ND adjustments?

This is friggin' DYNAMITE! Another dream come true.

How many total f-stops can this baby suppress?

4 stops with Global shutter on and 8 in ND only mode. you can set the ND to increment/decrement in almost any fraction you want. I'd recommend setting a quick key for "Minimum ND" in case you're stuck at a lot of ND and want to get back to the lower end quickly. There is .43 ND (in optical density) when the mount is on the camera, which may not be a bad thing for a lot of situations.
