Hi Guys,

Im looking into getting me a second hand RED ONE for a feature film ill be shooting in July and wanted to know if i get a RED ONE with the old sensor is it still upgradable to M-X or not? Does it matter when it was bought?
That would be great to know so that i know if its worth to get a red one or an MX from the beggining.

BTW if anyone is looking to sell a red one send me a PM.

thanks a lot

Sure that should be possible, just contact a rep at RED, they'll talk you through it. It is not possible to buy a RED ONE with an M-Sensor anymore, but upgrading should be fine. So you're not waiting for EPIC after all, huh?

Not sure yet what to do, im just checking my options. A RED now would be great and as soon as EPIC out is ill could take a look at it again and see what to do.

but thx for the info

you mean scarlet right? i was looking more into Epic-X but the delivery time isnt sure yet, so maybe i can get my hands into a RED ONE or M-X and for a good price ill go with it for now and then see what the future brings...

sorry, I meant for $6k you can upgrade to MX and you get a new camera (over the non-mx) But I misread your post and thought you already had a Red. I would suggest finding a used MX rather than a non-MX and upgrading. Used MX bodies should be easy to find.

My idea was to go for a normal RED because of the price and as soon as i have more money upgrade to M-X. For the jobs i have now the RED ONE M should be just fine.

I have to agree with Greg, do not buy an M if at all possible, all the shipping and hassle will make it more expensive than going MX right away. I'm just not so sure if you'd be better of renting for now? I mean, you're at the right place for that, after all... I'm sure you could make yourself a good deal, right? :)

...but the shipment doesn't cost anything when upgrading...
