  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Lars von trier "antichrist"

We should wait for Anthony Dod Mantle to get a right info...

Trust me. He will tell you exactly the same as I told you. On a side note. It could be fun to see exactly just how much you'd be able to slow down RED footage with the help of digital tools. Slowing down stuff in FCP isn't exactly as good as it can be as it's algorithms for doing frame blending are pretty crude.

What difference does it make if they used a Phantom to get some extreme slo-motion shots?

I think Sanjin doesn't like the fact this movie wasn't 100% "shot on Red"... unlike imdb seems to claim...

Sanjin: I don't blame you! I also would like to get extreme slow-mo from my Red-One! I'm dreaming-begging Red to include 16GB of buffer RAM in the FF35 EPIC to get a burst mode up to 500fps at 3K...

But I do know what is currently possible with the Red-ONE and what isn't! Shooting a scene like Antichrist's first scene at 100fps (or 120fps) and then slow it down to 10% with FCP would give you a very different looking result. Something awful! Trust me!

Again, there is not a single doubt in my mind: the first scene was shot on a phantom-hd! 3 different reliable sources have confirmed this. But even without a single source to confirm, my eyes are good enough to see what is obvious: this scene wasn't shot with a Red and then slowed down in post!

The important question to ask is "how far can we slow things down in post-production"...

Not any more. The update button is your friend. :)

Thanks Miha,

not because I do like it or not if it's done on RED1 but more like to get "a clear" thing,

so now we have finally the fact that slo-mo was done on Phantom camera just because maybe "Antichrist" production company

have a respect and even a contract about using Phantom cameras that also means any info about that should be respectively and properly mentioned at imdb web page or wherever...

That it is about professionalism that a lot of people here are just "flagging" about but also using a different flags that can sometimes show an opposite...

Emmanuel,

also I like this very good point!

One more thing is that "Antichrist" paid a lot of attention at Cannes (from total shock, hate, press attack, misunderstanding, a big boo... to love, ovations, understanding,...)

and the thing like this (shot on...) should be corrected... also nothing against Phantom cameras...

go figure man.. even the whole gang loves your posts :hat:

on the other hand.. more epic sales.. edit no need for the usual rip-offs :cryin: me said the whole gang?.. ehehehehe

Getting a software solution is a way more affordable for most people.

Software solutions are far from perfect. Let's say they work best for green-screen jobs, where the character can easily be removed from the background.

OTOH, when you try to slow-down a regular(i.e. non "green-key") scene, results will vary from "very good" up to "extremely weird", because of the distortions which result from incorrect pixel movement estimation.

A very good example of this can be found on the following page:

Just have a look to the very first video "You don't Know Me" (music video from the group Autozamm): many times, you'll get this "warped background" artifact nearby the edges of the characters... This is very hard to avoid, except by rotoscoping each character frame by frame (a painful experience...).

That's why, in the end, nothing beats the hardware solution! Even for slowing down people and/or animals in movement!

the most funny was the hupert's hand to haneke.. simply ridiculous.

They have recorded over 1 1/2 week(it is a long time on a Danish film, we make an entire movie around. 6-8 weeks, antiChrist was filmed at 9 weeks) with phanton HD. I am not sure, but i think everything they have recorded slow (over 120 fps), is recorded with phanton ..
I will hear anthony next time I talk with him.
