  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- DSMC FAN 2.0 Upgrade Kit

Can we get the fan upgrade installed when we send our cameras in for the Dragon sensor?

What's been said previously is that it is possible to have Red install the fans. When the time comes for the upgrade/brain surgery inform your Bomb Squad rep, order the fans, and express that you'd like Red to install them.

I will say this though. It's not freakishly difficult to remove and install the new fans. Takes just a few minutes and the tools are provided.
 
I just shot an extended interview. Interior, 3 x 128gb mags. But, on the new 4. firmware and the 'Quiet' record mode.

Still with the original fans.

It was a huge improvement.

Camera actually cooled down during the interview. Soundman was happy.

I was going to get the new fans, or maybe just the top ones. But this improvement in firmware alone was great and very appreciated.
 
when did you order your fans may I ask? ordered mine 2 days after they went on sale and still no fans

Contact your bomb rep. Last I heard was 2-3 week to ship.
 
In Brazil shooting in serious exterior temps. Using two Epics. One with new top and bottom fans and one with old front fan. Difference is huge.
Adaptive mode set at 70% is the way to go in these extreme temps. Running 1/2 hour takes. Wish the B cam had the same setup as A cam. Absolute "must have" upgrade.
 
It just occurred to me... Jarred said the Dragon really likes heat. I'm wondering if the new fans are really necessary for Dragons? Just a rhetorical question since there are no Dragons in the wild.

True, but I'm thinking you can maybe set the fans to a lower setting and get by on the cooling side with those lower settings along with the software boost. As for quietness, I'm sure the new fans would benefit that side of things.
 
Also shooting in Brazil with the Kayapo tribe. (Hot conditions).
I use the original bottom fan because quieter at same efficiency in low fan speed, the adaptive mode and the FanPlate.
No overheating here nor camera fan noise.

There was a mention on this thread of the Optitek Nikon mount not working with the front fan. Is this true, I'm trying to decide if I will order both top and bottom fans, but I would like to use my Optitek mount still.

The way it is now doesn't work. I have emailed Jacek about this a couple of times and no response.

Still wondering about the Epic/Scarlet thing. I want the fan kit now for my Scarlet but don't want to have to re-buy when I upgrade to Epic. Can I put Epic fan on Scarlet and just move it later? :huh:
 
Same fan Terry for Scarlet, Epic, Dragon.

Any news regarding the modification to the current Red Top Plate?

We would like to get the top fan but there's no word yet about the top plate modification...
Maybe i've missed it?

I sent an email inquiry from the Red site asking about the top plate, maybe two weeks ago now. No response. I am a bit upset to not get an email back, but I did not pursue it as I will most likely get the new top plate combo when the time comes for the fans.
