  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- DSMC FAN 2.0 Upgrade Kit

should we wait if we are upgrading from scarlet to epic or dragon? not sure if they are replacing the body the upgrade

A few "small" questions, but:

1) Will all new cameras shipping form today on include the new fan?
2) Will the new fan be automatically put on to the Dragon upgraded Epic bodies?
3) If I upgrade Scarlet to Epic, will the new unit have the new fan?

Sorry not to cheer along with everyone but this should be a free upgrade. The Epic is the only non silent digital cinema camera out there right now. Cameras should be silent no matter how long they run. My guess is that it was an engineering oversight that made the current fan so deficient and it should be corrected gratis- the same way a free upgrade was offered for the OLPF bushing and the side mount battery holster.

Canon C500 isn't silent - the fans are different to the C300. Not that I'm disagreeing with you completely!

Am I the only one that never had a problem with camera noise? When I am indoors I just set the fan lower when rolling and higher when I stop. I've never shot interviews indoors with really long takes or anything like that so maybe that's why...

The Red Store says "Each bottom fan is specific is specific to each corresponding camera model and is distinguished by a SCARLET,EPIC, or DRAGON coin and grill".

Does this mean that just the logo coin differs?
Or is there actually an electrical/physical difference?

Yes what if we upgrade our FAN to v 2.0 on a scarlet X or EPIC X then upgrade to dragon later down the road... ?
Which one should we buy ? Is it just cosmetic (cam name and plastic color or is there more diff)

Anyone at NAB do a sound check? How much better is it / are they?

Also, how exactly does the top fan work? Does it supplement the existing front fan? Replace it? Only work with the new front fan?

Assuming it supplements the existing front fan, what's the logic controlling them? Does the top fan hum almost silently, until such time as the camera gets too hot, then the front fan starts howling as per usual?

Oh, and looking at the depth of the housing on the new front fan... couldn't ya have engineered a couple of XLRs in there to replace the dumb line jacks??? :-)

(Actually semi-serious there; I hate those bloody things, and the kludgy hookups needed to use them. But for most of my work, the Pro I/O is as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike, so that's not the solution..)

Thanks

Mike

AND,
if this differs electronically somehow, can we update it along with dragon if we bought it for our MX sensors?

I really want the fan now. But it's going to take a while to raise the additional funds for dragon. Do I get the epic or dragon fan?
