  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- DSMC FAN 2.0 Upgrade Kit

Honestly, i think all what RED really has to care about is making sure their own accessories work. Come on, you can't seriously expect from them to provide a list of compatible 3rd-party-products. Telling you if those products work or not is the job of those companies. And for that it would be great to have the exact measurements, thats right. But i'm sure RED doesn't hold back those infos, when such a company asks for them.

The strange thing is the RED reps at NAB that we talked to could not confirm if the top fan would be compatible with the RED top mount... :-|

It looks like RED is palnning to sell them by Fall.
End of may is the official date for the fans, Fall is for the Motion Mount...

that would be a BUMMER :(
I hope it is not the case, last official word from Jarred was :

As for what fits for the top fans.. naturally there will be some top plates that don't fit if they are totally flat without a carve out below. You can get a sense for this by knowing that the top fans fit under your current grill.. so if you have that much space on whatever top mount you use, you should be golden.

Well "by Fall" was a bomb squad quote.

The first post in this thread.

The DSMC FAN 2.0 Upgrade Kit provides you with user replaceable top and bottom fan systems to provide a quieter more robust cooling system for your Scarlet, Epic or Dragon camera.

$450 for kit. $250 each

Ships End of May.

Any chance to get somewhere more information about it? Like: Is it included in the Dragon upgrade? Does it make sense to only upgrade one fan? If yes, which one is recommended first: Top or down one? Can I add the top one if I keep the old one?
Thanks,
Marc

Not included in dragon upgrade. Yes you can just replace one of the fans. Not sure which one is more effective though.

Would be great to know the effect of 2, the reduction on noise, the effect on temp. If it's effective, it solves the one thing we don't like about our Epic, and would be an easy buy.

Would also need to know if the top fan is compatible with Viewfactor top plate and if the front/bottom fan is compatible with VF 15mm LW bracket...

Yeah def need to know a out the vf 15mm bracket clearance. If not then it's just the top fan for me

Thank you Bob.
Just got the answer from the tech info too: it is possible to just add the top one. No details about how much difference it makes, they are still testing.

seems like I'm just ordering the front one now and the top one later on...
if somebody gets word from RED please post to this thread! Thank you! :)
