  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2011 update...

Jim and gang. With the recent events in Japan and slight disruption to the supply line. Has this in anyway affected any surprises that we may see or hear in Vegas?

Just tight on time, so this will help with deciding to go or not.

I am staying at Vdara, got a suite for $180/night through Travelocity. Should be nice. Vdara dosent have a casino and is fairly quiet, which is good since I am a light sleeper. I stayed at the Wynn a few months ago and while it was very nice, it was very loud from all the clubs and bars down below. I need total silence to sleep.

It also doesn't have public parking- only valet. Pretty cool, until you need to get something out of your car...

Staying at the Riviera, figure the location can't be beat (or the price). Going to cover as much of the show as I can for my site. Question: those of you who've stayed there in the past, do you remember anything about the Wi-Fi situation? They say that you have to pay, just wondering if anyone's got firsthand memories of it.

Other than that, see y'all there...

Hey Ryan, I was wondering about the same thing since me and Damien will be covering the whole thing for my website, too. So the official answer from NAB is:

"Free wifi is not available in the exhibit halls but it is available in the common areas (lobbies etc.) of the LVCC. You would have to setup an account with Smart City - http://www.smartcity.com/"

BTW - I guess there will be WiFi or even wired internet in the press room...

I'm really excited to go to NAB this year. I'm 20 and in film school on the east coast. Luckily I could find the time to visit out of my crazy school schedule. I can't wait to check it all out and (hopefully) meet the team who created a system I've admired for years!

Circus Circus $45. a night...Kinda cheesy but close walk to the convention center.

Ryan,

Wifi is big business in Vegas... the only place you're likely to find it for free is at the McDonald's on the strip (!) or along the edges of the convention center and the "Wifi cafe" at NAB. They will also have several wired computers setup at various places around NAB that will allow you to check email, print tickets, etc. but you are limited to about 5 minutes and there's usually people breathing down your neck to get their turn.

There's always cell phone tethering...

If I want to be the first to see the surprise at the Red booth, what time should I stand outside the convention center doors? 7am? 8am?

actually the line begins April 1...and the scores of campers in line are expected to reach the Nevada/CA border by nightfall

Trust is when your wife lets you go to Vegas alone...

Love is when your wife lets you go to Vegas alone with her credit card...

Insanity is when she lets you go to Vegas alone, with her credit card, for NAB!
