  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2011 update...

I am finally going to book today, I am seeing some decent flight and hotel deals for arrival on Sunday night.

Which of these would you choose?
Luxor, Ballys, Monte Carlo, New York, Excalibur, Vdara, Circus Circus, Imperial, and... em Four Queens and Golden Nugget.

They are all within $150 of each other for 4 nights in a basic room.

Monte Carlo for the nice room.....Circus Circus for the short walk....

Are there many staying at the Riviera? It would be cool to hang out if any of yall are in that hotel.

@Andrew, @Tai, I'm staying at the MGM Grand, too - managed to get a nice "celebrity spa suite" for a good price... :) When will you be arriving?

Ha, im just in a regular old deluxe room :( hoping I wont be in it enough to care!

I should land in Vegas in the early afternoon. Gives me time to relax after the 18 hours of flying. Is there anywhere that serves booze in Vegas? ;)

Sounds like theres a fair few REDusers in the various (signature etc) parts of the MGM resort.

See you there Guys.

Has anyone spotted not-to-miss type sessions or or stuff under the Conference Programs that are worth it on the weekend (9th and 10th?) for RED-centric learning?

This one looks interesting = In-Depth: Digital Cinema Cameras from Production to Post with Jem Schofield (Anyone heard him speak before?)

Also, I don't really get if I have to sign up or if I pay I can just show up(to that specific talk by Jem)...any help from seasoned NABsters?

Tried to re-book the Riviera from Circus Circus. With the Monday pricing it would have been an extra 200USD.
Not sure why their Monday is over-priced compared to everyone else.
Even Expedia questioned that.

No worries.....the Circus Circus is just across the street. My wife stayed at Circus a few years ago....she said that it was Ok for just a place to sleep. I actually made some decent money last year at circus as well.

If you have never been to Vegas before......just keep in mind....it looks WAY better at night! :001_smile:

Four Queens and Golden Nugget are downtown old Las Vegas. Would require a cab to get to the convention. (Do NOT take the double decker bus, unless you have about an hour to kill while getting there). Your best bet is to stay close to the monorail, or Circus Circus which is easy walking distance.

Haha well I might just take your advice and stay at the Circus Circus but also don't sleep ;) Wouldn't be the first time not sleeping for 3 day straight in the biz I'm in :P

Great maybe we can hook up and have a beer and talk shop! When do you get into town?

Hopefully Sunday but with all these airline changes, its starting to worry me. I want to be in line Monday morning to say hi to the RED crew ;) Haha its like meeting the Beatles :) LOL!

The biz you're in? That sounds dubious, dude. Hahaha. Kidding.

But yeah, I think we can all relate. Studies have shown sleep deprivation is as dangerous as being intoxicated. I crashed the whip on the 5 FWY once (Socal)...narrowly missing a concrete pylon. Hadn't slept in three days. Was in school, producing films for class (along with all the other course load), and working two jobs.

Be careful out here.

I did get straight A's that semester though. :coolgleamA:

Well Im hoping that there is a RED party to keep most of us awake for a day or two ;)
I used to be an animator so sleep was there when you can afford it :P

Thanks a bunch : )
What if you wanted to get a decent room for a low cost, would you go for: Luxor, Ballys, Monte Carlo, New York, Excalibur, or Vdara?

A few cents

A few cents

Vdara is new I believe but that could be problematic.

Excalibur - white trashville

Luxor - never stayed there but cool architecture. 15 minute walk across the road to the MGM monorail.

New York New York - Never stayed there but lots of good places to eat.

That's all I know. Good luck and have fun. Check out Trip Advisor for reviews.

Vdara is awesome, but out of all hotels mentioned it is by far most expensive.

Thanks David and Jake I'll check out Vdara on Trip Advisor.

I don't know why all you guys are talking about the monorail. You seem to be forgetting the free shuttle buses to most of the hotels from and to the Convention Center leaving and arriving multiple times a day. See NAB website for hotels serviced. "FREE" is a term respected on Reduser

Thanks David and Jake I'll check out Vdara on Trip Advisor.

I am staying at Vdara, got a suite for $180/night through Travelocity. Should be nice. Vdara dosent have a casino and is fairly quiet, which is good since I am a light sleeper. I stayed at the Wynn a few months ago and while it was very nice, it was very loud from all the clubs and bars down below. I need total silence to sleep.
