This is bad news and something that unfortunately happens in all walks of life. It violates the trust needed to conduct business.
The only way to prevent it is to take action when it happens, it may not prevent it happening again but it sets out a companies
stance and puts down a marker.

I'm feeling for you Jim. This is a good indication of how much RED is shaking things up.

You labelled this a war and this shows everyone that it is.

I like the fact that you are turning from "sad to wicked pissed off".
As I see it you started the fight and I hope you are the one that finishes it too.

That's a shame.

I hope this is an individual's mistake instead of the corporate entity.

Yet somehow I think this story will have a very good ending for RED ;)

Methinks too. Who knows Jim ... the power of internet social media ... this comes out in full ... some kind of coordinated supportive action from thousands and thousands of movie industry people ... but the dust has to settle first.

Most of all I feel with you right now Jim. I dont know details, but I dont have to. This hurts.

Take care.

After spending another 10 minutes on the phone with my attorney... this is just about as bad as anyone could ever imagine.

This is the stuff movies are made of... really hard to believe.

Jim

So sorry to hear this Jim... it's disgusting!

That's a shame.

I hope this is an individual's mistake instead of the corporate entity.

I wonder how much plausable deniability that ARRI has considering he was: "...throughout 2010, as ARRI’s Vice President of Market Development, Michael was responsible for developing new markets for ARRI, in digital acquisition, with focus on technical product marketing and rollout of the new ALEXA product line of cameras." http://www.zacuto.com/castbios/michael-bravin

I hope that ARRI are not involved in this, but you would have to be extremely naive to believe that they did not benefit from Michaels "inside" knowledge of the competiton! I hope the guilty parties are smoked out and punished accordingly!

Personally I like technology space races because the majority of the time the customer benefits but when it gets this dirty it becomes more of a good vs evil battle which leaves a very bad taste!

Hope it all works out for you Jim.

All the best

Sorry to have those kinds of suspicions confirmed. I guess it is as I feared when I first heard about the raid in the news.

That raid happened when, within four months of Alexa's release? Or was it six?

Can't believe this... Holy.... What's next? Would the "lunchbox" be a gigantic 2K Scarlet?

Enterpenuiship is innovation, audacity, hiring the best people with ethic to have a fair competition. It is not about stealing R&D paid by them...!!!

Interested to see how this case plays out. Based on whats bubbling around I'd be interested to see how deep ARRI's involvement is/was.

I feel for you Jim and the team, it has to be heartbreaking to have this happen.

Jason

The stolen early Epic-M in europe earlier this year reeked of corporate espionage, so I imagine that reduser's email/phone was hacked too.

This latest news at first made me angry, but now it makes me sad to see how low people/the competition will go.

It sounds like additional charges may be coming. If that is the case we should keep public discussion to a minimum. Seriously.

In life I always think that those who cheat in business get what's coming to them eventually. Better to play fair, be honest and sleep well at night :o)

I have found RED to be one of the most honest and straight forward companies I have ever dealt with...totally refreshing and unique a world where deception and corporate bullshit seems the norm!

stolen R1 prototypes,
stolen Epic-M,
hacked emails.
geeze guys, your doing something right...

Now you just need to lock down security. Hire a hacker on the payroll and get someone who breaks into computers, watch and protect your network.

Sad moment to share this, but I worked around 20 years in Corporate America. There was SIGNIFICANT amount of resources (human and millions of $) put into what we thought was paranoid-driven systems, to protect the intellectual properties. Being part of management, I had a good notion of the magnitude of such expenses. But nothing, nothing, until this made me realized how well spent that money was.

Now, this CANNOT be a lone-wolf work. Sorry to express it this way. But we need to, as Jim suggested, be ready to any possible scenario. He would have not written what he did, with his whole open heart, if what he has been told is not serious enough. Specially expessing his disappointment for what he, at one point, deeply and sincerely respected.

I won't comment on the "news", it doesn't seem appropriate, at least to me. I just don't understand why a thread like this is still open. This is a public forum, everyone can come, read and use whatever is posted here, it being facts, opinions or wild speculations. It'd be a lot wiser if there was no comment or discussion on this story until things are crystal clear. I apologize if this sounds like a rant.
Just my 2 €cents. I'm out of here.

In order to understand what someone is going through I try to correlate the event with something in my life. The closest I can come is having someone somehow breaking into my computer(s) and stealing one of my scripts, then using parts or all of it as their own work. Whether it be done by physically breaking in to my home or through my internet connection, I would feel the same violation of my cocoon.

Some here suggest it is a form of flattery that someone wants to steal your ideas. Don't flatter a thief.

It is bad enough when it is a faceless stranger who is the perpetrator, but when it's a recognizable face (person OR company in this case) the first thought that must have come to mind would be Et tu Brute?
