  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Major Announcement- July 6th

Everyone seems to keep mentioning camera phone, but here's what I assume:

RED is about to take on the GoPro, extreme sports, drone camera, and personal handheld market with a small footprint / form factor camera that is both lightweight and expandable. The RED-style modern edge - adding massive power and quality to a market that really needs something the next step up. There's not much in this category right now other than the DJI X5S, and they haven't even attached it to the Osmo yet.

I also don't know if I believe this is the "next big thing" that Jim has been working on behind the scenes, or him just coming out of hiding to show off something exciting in the middle of things. I could surely use a camera like this on the side, and so could a lot of my filmmaking friends. It's bold and daring.

Now - if the concept is fixed lens... Then light field / dense field would be correct. Focus and depth after-the-fact. Pop in a 4K cut of Helium for low light. ;)
 
My credit card is maxxed out, so sadly I'll just have to be a jealous spectator :drool5: :emote_popcorn:

That suggests something GPS or at least satellite related to me , but ...

1) Launching satellites is not a new product category
2) GPS location & tracking is not a new product category
3) Geolocation in phones is not a new product category

Maybe a new kind of communication device? Solar powered satellite phone that doesn't cost a fortune to own and run, and isn't geographically tied to any mobile network, and doesn't need a mobile tower to work? Or an add-on to mobile phones that allows this functionality which would certainly be helpful in areas of patchy cellphone network coverage.
 
Based on Jim's patents. I am going with a wearable computer that can project video and information directly into your retina. You can look at objects and get immediate feedback on what it is.

It also would allow you to see your camera footage under any condition.

But then it could be anything... But I am hoping for this..
 
Based on what I've heard, my credit card is ready. I'm excited to become one of Jim's first participants at Red Island Adventures.

Guests are flown in on his private plane to a secret island where Jim himself greets each one of the guests with a handmade cigar.

Two pina coladas later, guests are introduced to the real surprises that await them on the island.
I'm just hoping the rumors about the dinosaurs are real.

... that you're all participants for a hunger games like fight to the death? All filmed by RED cameras in the trees? Have fun on the island.
 
A device that records all motion tracking in realtime, has lighting speed hdd, wireless monitor and steadycam, all built in... I knew it! I knew it!!!!

No matter what it is it'll be backlogged 2 years moments after orders open up. I ordered the new V-mount batts on 4/20/17 and I'm STILL waiting for them to show up. What's the point of ordering early? But who am I kidding, I'll order this/these from day one too. I'm so weak :-(
 
Jarred & Jim... Maybe a hint of price range? You know... So we get prepared and define which organ to sell and not sell one too many. :p

I think It is a multi-lens / multi-focal camera with depth-of-field setting in post... (miniaturised)

Space does not have to refer to something beyond the atmosphere. It can also point to a (multi-lens, such as a stereo) camera system that measures distances to objects. In other words a camera system specifying also spatial distances. We'll see ....
 
My thought is that Jannard could jump on the crypto currency stuff.

"Have your credit card ready." Simply exchange your money early and become super rich in a new kind of bitcoin spinoff. A coin that works and have a pretty solid man behind it to back it up.

Something that changes everything for everyone is probably not a phone or a new red camera model. And "tell everyone you know" dos seam to be a bit wider than cameras, money who does not need it? :)
 
1. Space, time, travel. (edit: and electronics)
2. Tell all my friends.
3. New product category.

My take is:
1. It's about transportation.
2. All of my friends are able to afford.
3. It's not a video / image capture device.

edit:
It's somesort of personal (able to carry max 2 person), mobile (as in Automobile), land transportation (non-long range for now, as in non cross-country. Maybe interstate? Maybe not, but definitely city) device. Able to be carry by a Single person when not in use.
Might involve using of 3D printing technology. Hydrogen powered?
