  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Lets make a list and ask vimeo for Higher resolutions.

If we get together and make a little petition we could probably get vimeo to allow us to host 2k, 3k or maybe even 4k on their site.I would love to be able to up and download big format stuff and HD does not feel all that big any more. We are quite a bunch here that probably would pay a bit extra for our vimeo accounts if they gave us something like full cinema display resolution, like 2560x1080 would be really nice. 4k is of course the goal, but babysteps usually works the best... Personally I think it sucks to see on screen upscaled stuff. So give your +1's and then we send the vimeo guys a link to this thread. What do you think?

+1, vimeo nailed it with the tip jar and upcoming rental option. all it needs is 4k ability and they would have my money.

Vimeo already have my money as I pay for a pro account. Not for much longer though, as for me Vimeo has jumped the shark. Upload speeds are a joke and there are too many basic errors creeping into the service. Time to move on.

Yeah, screw higher resolution. I want higher bitrate options and better compression. They have enough resolution now IMO--they are just starting to lose the quality race. YouTube has stepped up their compression quite a bit.

Vimeo have had so many problems lately such as tons of uploading issues, long conversion times and audio sync issues. I really doubt they can handle anything more than what they are already delivering.

As a first step they would not even need to stream it. It's not their fault it's lagging when we use poor internet connections. But I would love if they actually just did a small down load 4k, or2,5k torrent file button or such next to the "HD" button. Streaming 4k today is not really realistic. But if i see something nice and I could get it in superb quality I would not mind to let my computer stand all night to download it.

Somebody needs to step up. I think that apple absolutely do not regret that they made the effort to host all the HD cinema trailers on their server... It's quite obvious that it's now time to add some sort of button above the one for 1080p... If nothing more it will drive up the market for more high end computer screens. We had our 32inch cinema displays since they came out that was about 8 years back I think...

Its a nice idea and definitely the future but 99% of the people out there probably aren't going to be able to take advantage of anything over HD with the current internet infrastructure in most of the world i'm guessing

It seems to me one of the biggest hurdles to 3k, 4k consumer deliverables is lack of fast network connections...

Having a download option would be a really cool step though I agree!

I also wish Vimeo's HD streaming was more efficient though.

I do not know about the rest of the world but here in scandinavia even preschool kids knows how to get their stuff from Piratebay and have no problem dealing with quite heavy full feature length bit torent files... :)

I guess this thread can be closed to my great supprice I just realized that the 2,7k something file I just uploaded to vimeo actually is published in the same resolution. I thought that there was an "hd limit" to it, but i guess not.. nuts. Any how it looks mad on a full frame highdef screen: https://vimeo.com/50692877

wow, that looks great. Thats a native 2K file uploaded?

Really great location, unbelievably great. How much digital FX work? What lenses? Stunning images.

I'd join the petition to add resolutions up to 2560 wide.
But I'd also like to them to allow 60fps motion. Right now they cap at 30fps.

:) glad to read this... as it's almost all cg... we shot with our hawks and a alexa studio with codec. I would have prefered epic for two reasons for this film HDRx and larger sensor. On the source plates the DP got both the exterior sunlight and the greenscreen within range.. resulting in poorly exposed greenscreens.. with epic things would have been differnet. then I would also as a VFX sup called out that we where quite to much towards the dark end. As RED goalposts is easy to understand.

Here is a split with before CG and after not final grade on this clip though:http://www.syndicate.se/Files/~usr/forsakringskassan2/VALS_split_1-RSZ-MP4.mp4

and link to our page where you also have another film shot in other location: http://wordpress.syndicate.se/488/

We actually upploaded H.246 at highest bitrate. But we will try to do it with proress to see if we can get out some more of the compression artifacts.. Upload time was about an hour and a half.

Wow! Great VFX!! What was the budget if you don't mind me asking? Love realistic VFX

I have some projects coming up that need VFX and was recommended to this company: gloriafx.com , but after seeing your work I like it much better. We use Gloria on a lot of music videos but their VFX work seems to be getting less good...
