  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

Steve,

You're welcome man! I'm looking everyday , like I'm sure everybody else is, on the latest info on the Red komodo. I then post what I find from looking for myself here for everyone else who might not have the time to look for the same info.

Andy,

HaHaHaHa, Thanks for that! I'm just another Squirrel in the Red World collecting food for the winter.

One of the limitations of perusing various Komodo footage examples is not knowing the creative intent. IMHO, the ideal camera is one that can achieve a wide variety of looks without the image breaking in key metrics.

Cheers - #19

I think you're right. However it does show what various individuals with different levels of expertise with Red Products as well as the red R3D IPP2 workflow can do with the Komodo. I think most of us are somewhere between the worse footage myself and others have posted to the best footage that has been posted.

I think if we talked about why one image sample looked below standard and why one image sample looked above or well above Standard, we could help everyone to get better looking footage.

Andy, HaHaHaHa, Thanks for that! I'm just another Squirrel in the Red World collecting food for the winter.

Some day, you're going to have to post a photo of yourself or something. Whenever I think of your posts, I think of this scary looking, high-cheeked, white-haired woman... like the White Witch from Narnia or something. It creeps me out... so I have mixed feelings about your posts :) But it is surely recognizable now.

Andy,

I really hate seeing people on Facebook and Instagram with 30 to a 100+ photos of themselves. So I'm not really into posting my photo everywhere. I think it's more important what I can contribute to Reduser than who I am or what I look like. But maybe one day I will.

I chose my Avatar based on the look of the black and white contrast of the image. I loved the the black and white photography of Helmut Newton back when I was really into photography and my Avatar image reminded me of something he would have shot.

I also like Dark art as well.

I'm a fan of Newton as well-- his images are stylish without being shallow, and they have a way of conjuring up a world beyond the edge of the frame. I can see what you mean about the echo in your avatar...

Matt,

Yeah, he dealt alot with High Contrast black and white images some which included women in Leather. I didn't want to use an actual Newton photo as my avatar, just something Newton-ish, but slightly Darker.

All of his images always seemed like a captured still from a movie that you came in late to watch and that you tried to imagine what lead up to this scene.

Sinh,

Here's an earlier video from Matt Devino where a Komodo using a 35mm Leica-R lens was compared to a Blackmagic 6K camera with a Sigma 18-35. You can download the video at the Vimeo Link below.

Vimeo
https://vimeo.com/442573698

"I don’t own duplicates of any lens, so best I could do was put a 35mm Leica-R on the Komodo, and the Sigma 18-35 on the BMPCC. The Komodo has a bigger sensor, so I had zoom out on the sigma to around 30MM to get the same FOV. Also, the Leica lens is de-clicked, so the two apertures were probably never exactly the same on both lenses, just “close enough”, the very first shot is an indication of this and not an indication that the Komodo has a darker image at the same ISO."

Here are also a few videos by Yale Goodman that use other Leica Lenses.

All tests were at 6k, 17.9
MQ quality
800ISO
180 degree shutter
Leica 50mm Noctilux.

Just shooting a day out with my dog and her dog friends.
All filmed with the RED Komodo
6k 17.9
24 and 40fps
180 and 8.2 degree shutters
Leica 28mm Summicron and Leica 50mm Noctilux

RED Komodo Low light test
1st clip - 800ISO
2nd clip - 1600ISO
3-5 clips labeled

6K 17.9, MQ, Leica 50mm Noctilux

All shot with the RED Komodo
6K 17.9
MQ
24fps
Leica 28mm Summicron
Leica 50mm APO-Summicron

Much appreciated Rand! Sorry, I didn't get any alert regarding your post so I barely saw it now :)

No Problem Sinh! I had other members post a reply to me that I didn't see for a week or two. I'm sure it happens alot to all members at sometime or another.

Bizkit - Zaddy (feat. Trap Beckham) [Official Music Video]

It seems every Music Video I've seen lately shot on the Komodo have women shaking their asses in them. But I'm not complaining.
