KOMODO....

You may be right Björn. But one could use a phone as a monitor put together quite a low cost kit:
Komodo: $4500 (a guess, with discount)
3 batteries @ ~$100 each: $300
Charger: $200
2 x Cfast 256GB @ ~$350 each: $700 (not sure exactly which cards will be good enough)
Phone cradle: $200 (also guessing here)
TOTAL: $5900

Assuming the discount is around $1000, the difference between $5900 and $6900 is ~15% which is quite significant. But I agree it is not reason enough to buy this camera over another.

Which batteries are you referring to here? Those Canon BP batteries can be quite pricey. I was considering the new CORE SWX NANO-C98 batteries and they're going to be $245 a piece. The Canon BP-A60 batteries are about $429 a piece.

Along these lines, take a look at the new Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR - seems to me like the perfect complement to the Komodo

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicvideoassist

For $995 you get a 7" HiBright (2500 NITS) monitor that can monitor and record 12g 4K (monitor is native 1920x1200)
But for me the big deal is it has two mini-XLR inputs with phantom power for audio recording - eliminating the need for a separate audio recorder. If the Komodo outputs its built-in mic audio on the SDI output it should record that as well.

You also get multiple scopes.

Uses Sony NP-F batteries or external power.

Weight 29 ounces

From BMD"

"Blackmagic Video Assist 7" 12G HDR adds professional monitoring and recording to any SDI or HDMI camera in all HD, Ultra HD, 2K and 4K DCI formats!

The super bright 2500nit 7 inch HDR monitor supports 3D LUTs and features professional scopes along with powerful focus assist and exposure tools that help you accurately set focus, exposure and frame shots.

Dual built in SD card recorders save files from any camera in 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes or DNx formats. Can also record direct to USB-C drives.

You also get two mini XLR connections with 48V of phantom power and a noise floor of -128dBV for high quality, crystal clear audio recording.

Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR features 4 different types of professional scopes for technical monitoring and signal evaluation. You get full waveform monitoring, an RGB parade, vectorscope and histogram. The scopes support both standard and high dynamic range signals and will automatically change their graticule when an HDR input format is detected. Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR displays the scopes as an overlay on top of your video or you can tap the picture in picture in icon to move the video into a separate, smaller floating window on top of the scopes."

I think those are the wrong batteries. You're talking about canon's updated batteries which are used by the C300 II, C200, and C500 II. But the Komodo takes the original Cinema EOS batteries used by the C300 and C100 I and II. Specifically these: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...zv4KAGIs9NU5_zzTMXLvBirJe7ROqeMwaAv1kEALw_wcB

They are $145 new, but I got two of the biggers ones (BP-975) for about $24/each. According to Red, that should give me almost all day power on those two batteries. Then I'll pick up a couple of the BP-955s (already got one for $22) for small, gimbal setups.

To be fair, there isn't a single camera package out there that won't require you to buy batteries, media, and lenses. Granted, those might be new things if you don't own any of the type that this camera takes. But I've got RF Mount adapters, three 512GB CFast 2.0 cards from C300 II days, and found the Canon BP batteries for $20 a pop (got three of them) on MPB.com in great condition. So, the Komodo will be just the price of the camera for me (and I'm sure there are a lot of others in the same boat).

Yes sure, but what I mean is, even if you get full discount for your hydrogen purchase, then thats still only like a 20% discount and I dont really see why we would get more than a fraction of that for holding hydrogens. So more likely whats discussed is discussed here is much smaller discount than 20%.

Oh yea that may be true. I think the only thing we know right now is that Komodo won't be less than $5k unless you own a Hydrogen. So, if Hydrogen owners get the Komodo at $4995, that could put Komodo in the $6k range (for a direct discount) or maybe even higher to show goodwill to Hydrogen owners.

I'm going to guess the Komodo will be $6495.

Based on Jarred's comments it sounds potentially like owning a Hydrogen One gets you:
- A discount on Komodo to sub $5K
- And likely some sort of priority in the queue

If we buy a hydrogen now we also get the discount or it's too late?

Nope. Jarred said only people who purchased before the module was cancelled are getting a discount and queue priority. We have not yet established exactly when the module was cancelled, but I'm guessing the 12 March post by Jim on h4vuser is the date.

As Robert just mentioned, my guess is that it is too late.
Here is Jarred's response on the subject from a few days ago:
... And yes Komodo discount for those that bought Hydrogens before the module was cancelled is still in play. And more importantly for some.... the pole position.

But you will be getting a kickass rugged monitor in any case!
I'm thinking of getting an extra Titanium one.

Oh, nice! Thanks for the heads up!

Has there been any more info about the AF system? I saw a post saying Jarred announced it will have a more advanced AF system. I’m wondering how it will hold up in Run and Gun situations? Obviously we can’t expect something at the level of dual pixel but having a raw ready camera that has AF is lacking in the market. Also hoping we will get 120fps in at least 1080.

It will have Phase Detection AF.

any beans you can spill Phil?

Nope, that's for Jarred to do.

I will say something worthwhile though. Komodo is built very solid. It's very much a utility production camera in my mind. Yes, Jarred doesn't want you to use this as your "first camera", but you can do whatever you want with it really. I totally get where this fits in. You can take it anywhere and sort of put it anywhere.

In a lot of those applications where you want something like that and have a raw image, it's good to go. I see where some tiny cameras are used on set, this will become the defacto tiny camera to use on productions that need it because it does a few things better or more uniquely.

The sensor tech is wild.

I'm also still really imagining some of the more not-so-normal things you can do with it too. Mainly related to streaming and multi-cam stuff.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback dude !
Did you record some footage or was it most just checking the camera body itself ?
