KOMODO....

Exciting times Phil!
Just guessing that the frame Jarred posted was from another Komodo?

Can you tell whether the lens or the baby dragon was heavier?
I can imagine it balancing out with a battery on the back... no?

This seems like a great camera for what it's intended to be used for. Which to me seems like it's most useful place of use is crash cam / action shots / multicam. A global shutter will really help those areas of use. But there are many people like myself who need smaller cameras as well. I sold my epic-w simply because it was too big and bulky to take it to the places I needed to go. Plus the power consumption + weight of the batteries really makes it a non-starter for remote work. Komodo fits this niche nicely but with the lack of higher frame rates that knocks it down a level.

I suspect there are a lot of people like myself who need a camera they can take anywhere. I would settle for a 5K sensor that can output 60 - 80 fps full sensor readout in a Komodo body. I don't need global shutter, dual base ISO or AF. Albiet, AF would be a nice feature.

Just my 2 cents. Still love the idea of the Komodo. I see these smaller cube cameras as the way of the future.

All good points. Specs and direction all changes with the tide. DSMC3 I believe will be a smaller lighter camera as we've seen happen since Red One. Komodo could evolve to something else down the road. Time will tell but it sounds like Komodo will be released fairly soon.

So i'm wondering whether we can get any clue as to possible timelines. Not carved in any stone. But whether we're talking a month, 3 months, 6 months or longer away? Holding off on a B cam which is needed soon - just wondering whether Komodo is even a possibility.

Can see there's a few in the wild. Just don't know what sort of rough timescale we might be on.

Any clues, most welcome!

cheers
Paul

Well, My Stormtrooper Komodo arrives on Friday.

Stormtrooper REDs usually signal pre-production. It's impossible to predict how the next stage will go, because literally everything could go wrong, but if you look back historically and use Helium as a reference, We went from Stormtrooper Heliums to shipping to normal Heliums everyone 3-4 months later.

So if you need to make a guess.. that's about as good as you can get. But... as we bang on them more.. that could go completely sideways.

We are Probably ready to start talking specs soon though... since those wont change that much now. Although most of you have figured it out anyways.

There are still a lot of important (and exciting) unknowns! Sensor size, AF capabilities, power draw, monitoring solutions, crops at resolutions, etc. Let's get that full announcement out there!

Really excited to learn more about this camera! I've sat out the last couple rounds of camera iterations... looking to jump back in with Komodo.

Ooooo the excitement is palpable. If we get spec announcement in the next month with a pre order/wait list and shipping even within 5 months that's a time line I personally like the sound of.

Does this means that a batch of stormtrooper Komodo is coming soon ?? as for Helium a few years ago ?? That would be awesome :)

Any chance we can get a limited run of Stormtrooper Komodos if we ask nicely?
Pleeeease???

HAHAH...

Come on Jarred, you need to admit that Gregory here makes a very well built compelling argument in the request... ;)

Actually a Komodo Stormtrooper or (3) would fit nicely within what it's in store... Hopefully finally been able to pull it off.

Hi Jarred,

Which color fits better the Hydrogen TI? Black or white Stormtrooper? Just asking for a friend...
