  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jannard...

How about this for balls. Jim started both companies with his own money in his back pocket.

The 1st time was Oakley with his last $300 in his wallet, no job, and a pregnant wife at home.

The 2nd time was RED.. yes his wallet was a bit fatter.. but it was all his money. His retirement money. He put it all on the table to take an even bigger gamble on his vision.

And here we all are..

You know what the crazy thing is... and I can tell you from being so close to him.. it feels like he is just getting started.

Nothing like playing with your own money to keep yourself focused

That is So Dope!

Half of this Country needs that much heart!

Some people make excuses other make opportunities! Very few men like this anymore.

We have a generation that has gotten a lil soft in the middle.

Huge inspiration!

This I totally DIG!!

In fact after so much back and fourth all over the WORLD... literally, I have decided to start my company in Florence and my First Movie out of my own money,
what ever little I might have, I'l put all down... I believe in my self so I'll invest in it... ;)

I'm sure Jim believe it in himself too, and while others might have found his idea a great one they just didn't had Jim's vision.

Wit RED... Well this is really an other thing all together as when you have money almost anything its possible, however also to put down your HARD earned CASH takes BIG B%$#@,
so again Jim believed in his own Vision and moved forward... Not worried of what the future would bring, but instead looking forward to what the future of RED would have brought... Thanks for that!!

It's all fun and games until someone posts a Python clip...

In all seriousness here, I dare you, wait... I double dog dare you to name another company that engages with their customer base in light hearted chatter, on the late eve of one of the most entertaining holidays to be out of the office on, just days prior to a huge announcement, on their internet forum. This thread started as praise of Jim (and think about that for a second, we feel ok about calling this man by his first name here)- Well I want to extend that praise to everyone one at RED who has followed that vision. Personally, I know of NO other company that functions this way. And as sure as I am that it requires a leader of a certain mind to facilitate this.... I know that it also requires both employees and customers of a like mind to make it work. So here's to RED and all it is.

/Rant... Back to my corner I go...

Heh heh.. great men.. but still don't beat Jim. One guy founded a great first company then a bunch of small companies ( not brands ) and the other guy only started 1 with investments from a 3rd party... then an offshoot in the same market which has yet to even get off the ground.

I knew it wouldn't get past you:)

So with all these cool toys, is Jim like Batman or Iron Man? Is the 'Red Avenger' already taken? "Quick, to the REDJET!"

Also funding my own films.

Buying my own Red products also.

I'ma a feind for Inspiration! I need it!

All I have is this Life and this Dream, might as well go for Broke!

Hi Jarred,
Jim is a phenomenal entrepreneur and leader. I am not sure whether he likes being compared with Steve Jobs. Somehow I feel giving the example of Steve Jobs is not in great taste here. Especially when many are still in a state of mourning, I feel this reference however unintentional it might be, could have been avoided.

Sabyasachi

There has only been one person in history who has started two separate world brands completely from scratch.

I'm not talking about buying companies ( like Jobs buying Pixar ) .. I am talking about starting from ground zero.

It really struck me when Steve Jobs died. I loved the guy and everything he stood for. The good and the bad.
He had a big influence on me, on all of us wether we admit it or not.

Now I realize, that Jim and yes you Jarred too, have a far far bigger impact on my life than any thing else in this world till today (ok my parents and daughter are rockstars too).
You changed the way I shoot, the way I think a bit, you changed my whole business for the better. This is huge. No other Apple product ever did this to me, none.
As much as I love Steve and he is seen as one of the greatest minds ever, in my world Jim and the gang mean much more to me than all the other great leaders combined. This is huge. This is scary at the same time. This is remarkable for a team that didn't exist only a few years ago. This shows who you are.

It's an honor to hang out with you every single day. This is my life, this is why I love it.

Thanks
Tim

I don't want to get off topic but nothing about this is offensive. He's just stating a fact.

And posts like this my friend... is exactly why we are here. Thanks for sharing.

OK how do i buy shares in RED now? My superfund needs it!

From the outside looking in it's been clear that Red has had a very different mindset and approach. Just the fact that there's this level of communication between key players with the general audience alone sets you guys apart.

I don't know Jim, certainly glad to have met him at a Red Day, but I do know Red and have watched them walk through the fire of doubt and come out on top. I don't know if I've heard the term "vaporware" thrown around more than many articles covering Red prior to the Red One's release. Years later they produce the highest quality digital motion picture cameras on the market.

I think I was in 5th or 6th grade when I owned my first pair of Oakley sunglasses. I remember when I was first introduced to them on a beach playing volleyball. I was told they "were the best sunglasses in the world". Never thought much of that at the time. But I did know that they were everywhere and pretty much changed the market place. Just as Red has.

From a distance Jim's been extremely inspiring. For me Red has made more of an impact on my personal, professional, and creative life. However, It seems I've been looking through stuff Jim's been making since I was kid. Crazy thought.

About Jim being humble:

I won't forget it, at the first IBC of RED (2005 probably, or was it 2006? Where you showed the first footage of Frankie), I was 18 at the time.
I went there with a friend, who I dragged along in my enthousiasm.

We didn't have the money for a RED. I still don't, although november 3rd Will maybe change that.
Anyhow, there I was, at IBC talking to Jim how I loved what they were doing. He took the time to listen, gave me his card, told me I could always email him. I was thinking to myself: why is this billionaire and the head of this company taking the time to talk to someone (I'm sure he also knew at the time) that doesn't have any funds to buy his camera.
But he took the time to talk to us. No attitude - except for a nice humble one - at all.

I told Everyone in film academy about RED. They allmost all laughed (scam). I left the school a couple of months later but sure enough, 2 years later everyone was shooting their movies on RED.

The place where I edit Will buy their first Epic-M, party because of my talking about it (for 3D work).
I'LL be able to use it if I make my short movie and depending on the final price range I Will order a Scarlet.

But I won't forget Jim taking all the time to talk to 2 young students without money at IBC.

from inside the newest addition to Stage 4 at the studio... and probably where I am going to sleep tonight :)
