  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jannard...

Jim, with a very evil smirk, dared me to drive it home a few weeks ago. I did.

For sure the most insane vehicle I have ever driven.

Can't see shit.

Weighs 17000 pounds, plus 2000 more of mud and sand that Jim managed to cake on driving it through ocean quicksand ( another story ) .

2" thick bulletproof Doors weigh 1000 pounds each and are just waiting for you to not pay attention and chop of a finger. or arm. or leg.

Can't see shit.

Takes 2 blocks for the brakes to stop it.

Can't see shit.

Good thing that everyone that saw me coming pulled over... on both sides of the road.

that 8 minute drive felt like it took 2 hours :)

You think that's bad, try one of these:

I have two... this one isn't mine, I was shooting it at Land Rover! This is their nicely restored example, mine are a work in progress!

Land Rover Defender? LOL.
You can park a Land Rover Defender on the back seat of this vehicle!
If you have a size comparison between a Hummer and a Land Rover Defender in your mind, then take a look how the Hummer looks versus that "Matchbox car":
Axel

OK! That's a big vehicle! Not sure why they would make it off-road like, something tells me that would sink in the mud before it got 2 feet. I'll stay with my TDI Defender for the bush. I think Jim is prepping for war on all fronts. Beware Canon!

Wow I'm proud to be Canadian!! Who says were a bunch of pu**ies!

...I'm not sure how it is done, but I would like to officially put forth a movement here for Jim Jannard for Technical Oscar for the RED ONE Camera system (And family of Cameras). This year, Mr. Jannard should be recognized by the industry. Whether or not he chooses to accept such an award is not important...

~Casey

This is a great idea.. No idea how to make that happen. Maybe you guys out there can put in a good word :)

Actually, the entire RED Team should also share in this honor!

and not to forget that being all this successful and rich, didn't make you forget what being a customer feels like :)
one thing that makes me keep believing the unbelievable are all the refunds and goodies you give away through the products.
this is unheard of! this is believing and thanking the customer more than anything else...
thanks for being awesome rebels! stay that way, and we will stay and more will come....

jannard you rock....!

and jarred, you're too humble yourself. jim is smart... we know that, you know that. he wouldn't pick just anyone. he picks
the one he wants, because he believes in them... ;)

jarred you rock, too! ;)

RED will never die!!!
(At least I hope not soon lol)

Not taking anything away from JJ, but here's two successful entrepreneurs to think about:

Alan Sugar and Stelios Haji-Ioannou.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Stelios_Haji-Ioannou

Well, I dunno. One is a wheeler and dealer who did good, but now just siphons money from the rest of the economy in the form of property speculation (and from the TV licence)
The other started a heck of a brand, but I think doing so is much easier if your dad is a shipping magnate who bankrolls your early days.

Neither has made as much progress as Jannard, in my opinion.

One person..without him no one would even have this great industry. Thomas Edison inventor of the moving picture and 1300 other things :-)

I've studied visionary types and entrepreneurs for years. I highly doubt that Jannard, or Jobs, or anyone who did it RIGHT ever set out with a goal of becoming a bazzilionare. They simply wanted to provide the finest product or service anybody could, at any price.
The common thread among the truly suceesssful: "Can we do it better?"
The bazillions are just validation for asking the right question.

I have way more Respect for people like this. They are more driven by a passion and a purpose, as oppose to success for success sake.

If money and stuff satisfied people, then the people with the money and stuff would be satisfied. They seldom are.

Carter - good insight!
As you said, not too many ask the question "Can we do it better?". Even fewer can deliver a solution. People like Jim Jannard and Steve Jobs are able to ask the right questions and then deliver the best answers. Looking forward to see what answers are in store just 48 hours from tonight :)

More my style ;) .

Sometimes you are just overcome with the urge to create and share something special. Jim is one of those people, and everyone at Red who shares that same inspiration has touched thousands of lives, and left them better for it. In my opinion there's no better thing you can do. I tip my hat to you gentlemen, as I march boldly in the same direction, in my own ways.

I've actually been doing some embedded development work with Chuck's new chips, and one of the first things I thought of was "gee, Red should talk to these guys". They've got some serious outside the box mojo to crank massive data through with miniscule power use. I'm working on some nifty devices for Red equipment using this tech...

He, he, beat me to it, should check out what I want to do. I was emailing a freind the other day, and he was saying that the chip could ingress 7 Gb/s. I've been sick and not kept up with what's happening (the rate these things turn) before I start. Is it really capable of this now, I remember when I was trying to get them to change from serial intercore to parallel word communications? I have a lot of nifty stuff for that chip to increase it's processing capability. What are you doing, at what skill level? I'm eventually probably looking at putting a team together for my own projects. I am one too that wants to put effort into lots of excellent products. Computer platform to rival Android at a fraction of the complexity for consumer electronics and my 3rd world computing project, is the first. Can you say, wrist watch, might be before that. Would make a really cool Red watch ;) doing a hundred billion operations a second on my platform.

I told Jim about the opportunity years ago, when they were looking for investors, never heard anything back. Chuck is aiming for low power process that limits speed on initial chips, but he now has the skill to change values in his design software and pass the design over to other processes. On a high speed process we could be talking about several GHz or more, which gives maximum data rates over 14Gbyte /s in a low cost profile.. This is if he can not reach the mythical tens of GHz. He stands to potentially make more money then he can shake his fist at (not literally).

Well said Carter...
