  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing the Panavision DXL

Great announcement.

Now just awaiting the similar announcement for the one we can purchase that has all the layout/ergonomics/user interfaces WE'VE BEEN ASKING FOR SINCE DAY ONE.

There's not much new here that hasn't been mentioned before by many here on refuser and face to face at shows.

It's a shame that all the little rental houses out there that have supported, promoted , band-aided and made bits to make these cameras work and become an industry standard will now play second fiddle to PV in all their markets.

Well done on the collaboration but somewhat disappointing at the same time.

Its not like red has stopped others from trying to do somthing similiar. But I can only agree its really sadening to see most other rental companies atempt on the same task. Bad dressed red cameras with missing or quite bad accessories is usually the norm. But that is not really PV or reds fault as i see it.

Also personally if I could only pick one I would still want the normal 8k weapon before this thing. Weight and size is still some of the key features of the reds as i see it. This PV thing is for sure still small but its never like a brain with a jet pack.

You guys ever see that Side by Side doc that Keanu did? Remember the part where Fincher is talking so much shit about how crap the Panavision Genesis was? He's probably silently smiling to himself right now (and/or maybe a little annoyed that his production had to pay to make the xenomorph).

what you cant mount this to your head??? haha jk.

I wonder if it has internal NDs and internal OLPFs?

I think this is the respone to Arri rentals monopolizing Alexa 65 along with PV maybe killing their 65 they never finalized? They have tons of 70mm lenses so this made a lot of sense for all interested parties. Red gets to compete against Arri on the higher end. Everyone repurposes similar R&D in the efforts... Good idea...

Big props to all involved. Deeper and wider integration of operations/functions in modern digital cinema capture has taken far longer than it should have. Once RED created a RAW file format with a metadata sidecar the foundation was there.

How ironic that Panavision, a company that used to make you rent a film camera just to get their lenses, is now in bed with RED. Never say never...

Cheers - #19

makes sense to me, panavision has always had panavised versions of almost very leading industry camera, its' really a great move for both parties. better red then sony again, boy was that a mistake.

Don't think RED is for sale.

Regarding the EVF: Maybe someone close to the camera can comment on the EVF if its a RED brand or something of a different origin. Also, curious why the screening wasn't 8K content vs 4K?
