  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Inexpensive gadgets and accessories you can't do without.

One other lighting related one. Photoflex Litepanels. They deploy quick, can diffuse or bounce, and are lightweight. You can occasionally find these on sale for a under a couple hundred bucks, used even less. I don't have a grip truck, so these make a hell of a lot of sense:

I bought this bundle (similar to your') when it was on sell like $400.

Great thread!

I originally bought this Clamp to rig a DSLR to some truss for a Timelapse. I now find myself throwing it in my bag nearly every time I go out. It has a 1/4" Male and 3 x 1/4 female threads on the top. You can also get 3/8" male inserts for it. It's really useful for clamping lights, cameras, monitors or whatever you can think of to what ever you can think of. It fits a scaf bar perfectly but it will clamp to all sorts of stuff. If you put a little ball head on the end the possibilities are endless.
It says it will support 15KG, not sure about that, but it is very solid.

I paid about £10 for it used on eBay. Closest thing I could find to it was this:

Mine is branded Manfrotto where as this looks generic. Not sure if its the same but it looks very similar.

.....Also a couple hundred bucks if you can find one on sale, the Induro DR Hi-Hat. I don't bother carrying around my other hats and boards now since I bought this thing. I saw these on sale over the holiday for $150.

May I know where you saw for $150, please?

Black wrap and some rubber bands I forgot the name of. They have small wood bars at each end so you can quickly secure things by locking it. Saves a lot of gaffer tape and don't leave marks

They're called Bongo Ties. Yes very handy!

During the holidays I saw a couple places in LA doing in store deals (Samys). Black Friday-ish sort of thing. Rarely happens, I was a bit shocked to see it that low. Either way, this little thing has been a gem to add to my kit.

I don't own any camera gear, or really any lighting for that matter. But in my bag I always have multiple cuts/sizes of bleached muslin (bounce or diffusion), Full/Lt/Quarter Grid cloth(bounce or diffusion), and Black Grid Cloth (negative fill). I started carrying them with me every day a little over 9 months ago and I can't remember a shoot in that time, especially small ones, where I haven't pulled at least one piece of cloth out. They are extremely lightweight and can fold into very small sizes. I carry more cuts than I thought I could...I can fit probably 10-12 total in my bag without it overflowing. I even have a 4'x12' Lt Grid in there. Use that sucker all the time.

That looks legit! How did you do that?

Yeah, I love it. Basically take the Epic coin off a hat, glue it on the hand strap, then press it flat under a sandbag for a few hours while it dries. I used Shoe Goo and it's held great for 2 years now.
I adjust the strap so it rests on my knuckles and I can reach every button on the handle. Because my hand is always in the exact same position, I can now operate the controls without even looking down.
