  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC - GPU Build REDCINE-X Beta 21

Same here. I've getting vertical bars of parts of the image on screen. Only when I'm pushing my resolution, which for me is 1/2 res.

They'll fix it, but your not alone.

Mac Pro (4,1) GTX680

I'm getting weird image shearing/judder during playback at 1/2 or full res. Hung my computer and required a hard reboot (I'm on an i7 Mac running OSX 10.8.4). I'm reverting back to previous release until this BETA release becomes final.

Did they make a video?

Hi
Today at IBC Adobe showcased real time playback,edit,grade in speed grade Red Dragon footage in their October release of Adobe Creative Cloud....HP Z820 and Quadro K6000 card were used.

What about the second part of the system screen?

I have 48 GB of Ram, I set my "memory limit" to 32GB.

"Number of simultaneous frames to process"

I have a 8 core Mac pro, so I can set it to 16, when I go beyond, I get the message system usability issues.

Typically the more RAM allocated the merrier. However, you want to leave some RAM for your OS and other things running constantly.

If you over allocate you can certainly bog down your entire system, which is somewhat to be expected.

I'd say somewhere in the 24-28GB range if you're aren't running too much extra stuff while working in RCX.

Interesting. I see you are using a GTX680 as well. Possibly something to do with this card?

Okay, I did a bit more testing: REDCODE 10:1 plays back fine at 1/2 res (i.e. no image shearing as in my example). REDCODE 6:1 plays back at 1/4 res fine, but I get the artifacts at 1/2 res. HOWEVER, if I disable Open_CL, 6:1 plays back at 1/2 without artifacts (after buffering). And no further system hangs at this point.

you did the patch for Open CL guys?
In OSX, especially on the hackintosh does not work otherwise.
open the terminal, use the lines that I have given you, you do a reboot;)

sudo perl -p -i.old -e '$c+=s/\x8b\x81\x1c\x0c\x00\x00\xeb\x06\x8b\x81\x20\x0c\x00\x00/\xb8\x02\x00\x00\x00\x90\xeb\x06\xb8\x00\x00\x00\x00\x90/; END { printf "%s: %d substitution%s made.\n",($c==1 ? "Success" : "Error"),$c,(!$c || $c>1 ? "s" : ""); $?=($c!=1); } ' /System/Library/Extensions/GeForceGLDriver.bundle/Contents/MacOS/libclh.dylib

I would think so. Only happens when I push it. I'm happy with 1/4th res.

Hello Grant! Anytime soon REDCINE X will be able to export a copy or replace of the RMD/R3D file with the new sync external audio synced inside?
As early as last version it was not possible according to RED Squad Team

Thanks

...

The first beta of the GPU accelerated REDCINE-X...

RED is listening... let's keep talking to them, people! This is awesomeness. Can't wait for this to be ubiquitous. Any editing system that does not enable this soon as its in the SDK might as well quit the game.

Running it on a i7 hackintosh with GTX 580 I get glitches every second or two if unsharp mask is used. These glitches are also in the exported quicktimes. Otherwise it seems to run fast and steady.

Interesting. The file that was giving me grief has unsharp mask turned on. When I get back to my computer I will test playback with all post processing disabled. Will report back!

BTW, I am getting about 30% faster processing times with open_Cl enabled. Once again, i7 Hackintosh with a GTX680 GPU and 32GB of RAM.

What a great surprise today.. I was at the booth and saw it first hand! Very Impressive! Nvidia is right around the corner running RedCine with the same clip.. That speaks volumes.

GPUing this code has upped the processing speed of my 2008 8 core Mac Pro beyond that of 2012 Mac Pro on the previous version of RCX.

Simply amazing - I can't wait to see the effect with the SDK and FCP-X.

Tested workstation:

Windows 7 64-bit, Intel Xeon E5 12 cores, 64GB of RAM & Nvidia Quadro 6000

REDCINE-X Pro 21 Beta results: (52GB selected and 32 Frames)

5KHD 25fps REDCODE 8:1 = FULL DEBAYER Faster than 25fps
5KFF 25fps REDCODE 5:1 = FULL DEBAYER Around 18fps

Export:
R3D File (756 frames) =====> TIFF 16bit 1080p full debayer 00:44 sec (GPU mode)
R3D File (756 frames) =====> TIFF 16bit 1080p full debayer 06:03 sec (CPU only)

OPENCL export was 8.2 times faster.

Using my Titan on my PC. 1:49 R3D full debayer to 1080p DNXHD 444

With TITAN GPU: 3:15
Without TITAN GPU: 25:16

Heh. That's what I said. And this isn't really using Cuda yet even. It sounds like we'll see even better performance.

Yeah, I was charting my performance with some desktop widgets, and even that export was just barely using my Titan, maybe it topped out at 39% usage for a bit of the export.

Whereas when I disabled it, my CPU took the hit and didn't like it, all 6 cores.
