  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HDRx footage...

It does seem that there is some temporal averaging going on somewhere, to create the 'grey letters' shown up
here.

I'm not on expert in anything, but that gray you're calling temporal averaging remains in other parts of the sign, as the letter seems to illuminate (the lighter gray) in addition to the bulbs (golden) coming on. Wouldn't the frame average disappear? For instance, the "depth" part of the O has the same coloring.

Apologies if I'm just too damn ignorant to comment on this.

Looks fantastic but that's only because I am assuming what it would have looked like without HDRx. Any chance we could see that as well just to really "WOW" us all?

I know I'm being greedy.

Dynamic range in this example is surely impressive. I notice that every light has a "comet tail" that points opposite the camera's motion. Is there any chance for a mode in which the motion blur goes in the other direction, relative to the brighter part of the light? (Similar to the motion blur effect of 2nd curtain strobe sync with a still camera.)

Jim,
We are really excited about this HDRx mode, I mean really excited.
also
We are happy to say we feel we have completed our R&D and of the REDone, we have taken them to the jungles of Africa, the Rainy pacific northwest, The Arctic Circle -27 degrees, The Bayou where we had a little boating incident that soaked both cameras with brackish water. All over the streets of New York. and now the desert where they were covered and sprayed with dust for 72 hours. We have never had either of our 2 cameras go down on any of our shoots. It been an amazing ride.
Thanks Jim check our site sometime its 99% all your camera.
and the 18-85 is really great on the ultimate arm.

Ah! I thought I was seeing that in the little lights during the pan. No biggie. It's close enough. If this is the only "compromise" to getting 18 stops I'll take it!

We see it as a feature... not a compromise. And for those that disagree, they can have MNMB (more normal motion blur).

Jim

I am not a DP, but I have no objection whatsoever with the motion blur... It would be interesting to see what the other mode looks like, but this one seems natural enough to forget about it you need the DR!

I can't wait to see more. Especially daytime stuff with white walls, or a white shirt! The James Dean test!

This would really help. Maybe for the next one?

I need one of those... :)

This is impressive. Will eagerly wait what this can do pushed to its boundaries. Well done.

We have demonstrated up to 18 stops with HDRx (and EasyHDR) but don't think that is what will be used in the real world. We believe that 15-16 stops is all anyone will need for special situations or a specific look (like a super flat look or Magic Motion).
