According to Arri, it is aparently the first and the only Master Prime 14mm on this hemisphere. I guess this was the reason for my mugshot and interview in the latest Arri News magazine. :)

It is available for hire ex Sydney, Australia on its own or in a 3-lens set with 35mm and 75mm MP.

Hi Pawel

I'm very interested in your 3 lens purchase. Are you going to take it up to a 5+ set?

What type of photography to you specialise in?

I'd love to try the 14mm (used the 16mm and was very impressed).

good luck with your investment.

regards

Michael

PS hope you don't like lens flare ;-)

Hi Pawel,
I bet there aren't too many of these in the northern hemisphere, must be a beautiful lens.
Hope you enjoy shooting with it.
Nice piece about you in Arri mag.
Regards
Tom.

Thanks Michael,

When I'm rich and famous (or ust rich) I will add 25mm, 50mm and 150mm. But currently no plans for that. I am happy with just three MPs and 300mm Red. I mostly do underwater cinematography, hence 14mm will be my work horse. I complement it filming wildlife above water and mostly work on the long end, like Red 300mm.

I hate lens flare...

Tom,

I was hooked on this lens after invitation from Arri to just come over and play with their projector and different glass they had... On wide end, the differences in various glass was rather dramatic and I was instantly hooked on MPs. Anyway, I'm happy as pig in the mud

Congrats Pawel.

When you get better would be nice to post some pics from T1.3 samples to have a look what is going on there.

Hehehe, I already feel better by the fact this lens arrived. :)

Absolutely, I will post some samples as soon as I have some footy.

Oh man, so you actually own this lens!?!

Pawel,

Waiting!!!!!!!!!!!

I will, but we may need to wait until next year. I am not allowed to even lift the case with R1. the lenses, the tripod or the head. But, I am working on my spine as much as possible and I have scheduled extensive filming from March onwards. Until then the 3 Master Primes are waiting idle tempting to use them. It hurts more than a spinal injury...

Before then, I will post some footy shot with other Master Primes in the kit, which I took in June. Stay tuned...

Pawel,

again wish you the best recovery and reanimation.

No need to rush with MP's footy.

Pawel,

Which three focal lengths did you get? I only have enough funds for 2. I've pretty much decided on the 14mm but don't know about the other one yet. If you only had a choice of 2... which ones would be indispensable to you?

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thanks Andrae,

I chose 14mm, 35mm and 75mm.

Your choice will greatly depend on what subjects/scenes you are filming most of the time. The 14mm is the optimum lens for perhaps 90% of my underwater work. However, I don't envisage using it more than 5-10% of time on terrestrial shoots. It is a great establishing shot lens and good for expansive wide vistas. I will also use it as specialty lens for nightscapes. But otherwise, it's terrestrial use is fairly limited.

The 35mm and 75mm are for medium (normal) shots and close-ups respectively - much more useful for terrestrial shots.

Choosing two is a lot harder. Perhaps 24mm and 50mm would cover 80% of your needs and you can hire other lengths when you need them. It really depends on the genre, shooting style and how you are going to tell the story by cutting the shots.

I would story-board your a project(s) and see what focal lengths you are going to need most.

Pawell,

thanks for all.

Would you be so kind to provide us as much info as you can get at your lens projector tests especially for MP 14mm T1.3.

Richard,

below is ARRI/Zeiss MP price list from 2007 in Euros but you could convert it in USD.
Also there are no MP 14mm and 150mm on the list because they are the newest in the set.

Hope you'll get an idea about the prices.

If you would like to have the best digital acquisition system that money can buy

- get your R1 to Mysterium-X upgrade for 4.500 USD,
- buy some of MPs (approx. 20.000 USD each),
- want anamorphic? get Vantage Hawk Anamorphic lenses
- get CMOTION the best lens & camera control systems for RED about 15.000 USD

Then you are ready.

Thanks for your input Pawel. I was thinking of going with the 14mm and a 50mm... now I'm wondering if the 14mm will be too wide. Hmmmm... well darn I guess the 50mm is a sure thing now.

For dramatic interior shots and epic like cinematography... would a 14mm and 50mm be used about 80% of the time?

Pawel, what did you pay for those 3 MPs?

Get in touch with Jonathan Epner at AbelCine. PM me for a direct number. I got a price quote from him this week. Lenses are between 23k and 32k.
