  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has anyone recieved the microMatteBox for Red One?

I am feeling guilty, mine works just fine. A tiny bit of gap, but there is no way light can hit the lens. All the screws are nice and snug.
 
Got my mattebox today, overall it looks good, but when I build my camera and put everything together I realize that the mattebox's side adjustment rods (the bottom one) is hitting my follow focus' right focus wheel, and preventing the mattebox from engaging to my super speed lens. Maybe with some other bigger lenes this is not a problem, but with Zeiss Super Speed the only way right now for my to properly connect the mattebox to the lens is to remove the right focus wheel. Now a focus wheel extension might fix the problem, but I think this is a major design flaw by RedRock, and I hope RedRock address this problem soon especially if they want to venture into more high end cine gear market. All in all the mattebox is great for it's price, but I think for me this mattebox is more of a back up now. I am ordering a MB-20 first thing Monday morning.

Some serration on the side rods to increase friction is also a good idea. I found the lateral movement lock is relatively ineffective. I have to REALLY tighten the knob in order to prevent the mattebox from slipping. Also I think it'll also help if RedRock can make the swing away arm a bit thinner laterally, I think that'll help bringing the mattebox closer to the lens, especailly with some short lenght lens like Zeiss Super Speed.
 
So far I'm impressed: I ordered my RRMM on the 16th of July and from tracking it today through FedEx, it's already here in Taiwan and in transit to my door for a tomorrow delivery! That's half the wait I was expecting - great job! I hope! :>)
 
How comes you ordered in July and get the RRMB allready ??? I ordered in May and no tracking info so far !!

@randy, you might have the same issue with the MB-20 and Superspeeds,
that´s why there are extensions.
 
Sorry, to clarify, I was "registered" as interested in the product, I guess, but I didn't actually place my order, cash payment, until July. Remember, you've got to make physical payment in full before they even manufacture your box.

I hope I didn't open a can of worms here, but WooHooo, I think I'll celebrate anyway! Ummm, sorry.... :>)

I would check with Redrock Micro because I also ordered in July and got my tracking number 2 days ago.

I placed my reservation in 2007, paid in full in April. RR confirmed this for me, but still no tracking number :ranting2:

And for me as well, when you look at the updated shipping shedule on the RR website it says;
Update August 8:

As of today all microMatteBox reservation holder orders have been shipped. We are now moving to general orders for the microMatteBox.

If you believe you are a reservation holder and have not received your microMatteBox or a shipping notice - please contact us at orders@redrockcmicro.com with your order number (starts with SO followed by 5-6 digits) and let us know under what email address your reservation was placed. Reservations and orders are matched by email address, so if you placed your order under a different email address it may not have been matched. If we can find your reservation we will give you priority shipping.

Wigby, we return all emails. Just give them a little time to respond or check your spam folder. We've seen some of our responses flagged as well.

Che - As I mentioned in your email to me as well, the side rods are standard 15mm, so you can replace them with shorter ones or even cut them. It is designed to be modular to meet a wide variety of camera configurations.

On the foam, Matthew is correct on the sizing. The 19mm case we sell is includes fitted foam sized to pelican 1600 (and of course the case is included). If you do not purchase our case, the microMatteBox is shipped in foam that is sized for Pelican 1550

I reserved and ordered from the same email. Its number: CS7213 (or 561-SO19742). Billed on 5/8/2008. Didn't receive anything so far.

Do you know if that foam also fits in a stormcase?

I just got my MB from Redrock and while I was among the group of people very angry about the customer service, I am now in the group of people who can't believe how awesome the product is. Get ready to be happy. :clown2:

The specs I outlined are for the pelican case sizes, but it will also work with whatever storm (or other mfg) case would be that is of comparable measurements.

WOW. Where is my mattebox? I reserved in 2007 and here I am reading people who reserved last month have theirs already?

I can't believe my order slipped through the cracks after all the email correspondence I had with them over the past month.

Either that or they shipped but just didn't provide tracking.
 
Well, I got mine today. I can't comment on why I did and you didn't, but I can say it looks great. I didn't even have to pay the taxman a penny! I think they just thought it was a black box. Hehehahoo!

It comes with the bright blue knobbies attached, but if you ordered another colour, you'll find them in little bags in the kit. Enjoy, folks!

Oh yea - it was delivered by FedEx, and even they were good this time around!
