  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has anyone recieved the microMatteBox for Red One?

Folks

As the microMatteBox rolls out to an increasingly larger audience, we would appreciate feedback your feedback - it helps us build better products with features you want, and is in keeping with the spirit of community involvement. The Red community is really great in this regard and your input has already resulted in a number of enhancements so far.

Please send your feedback to feedback@redrockmicro.com . Any and all comments are welcome, thanks

Brian,
Speaking of building betrer products..
not to change topics or anything but I am for a second..
Any way of adding a swing arm for the follow focus?
The product works great as is.. however it might be a great solution to get around certain lenses and issues that may arise..
this could be just an attatchment that would slip in where the current gear is.

That is more or less what our current follow focus design does - you slide out the drive gear/arm and you can then push it back in to re-engage it. It's not exactly like a swing-arm, but performs a similar function.

Or maybe you are suggesting something else. Either way, again please make sure to drop any suggestions to feedback@redrockmicro.com as well.

Brian,

can you confirm that you received my email at least? i sent an email out last week, was in contact with one of your reps (Andrew Lee) who said my order would ship out last week and nothing shipped and no one ever responded to my emails. my email address has always been the same since i placed my reservation in november 2007.

wigby - drop me a line and let me know your email address and we can go from there

mine was paid for, too...no sign of it. i'm a little unsure about how to communicate directly...i'll send out some e-mails, but i'm not sure how best to contact Redrock.

My new mattebox arrived this morning, in it's massive PeliCase...

I've not had chance to pair my Red with it (geographical separation), but when I do later this week, I'll post some images (if anybody wants to see them).

Anyway, I'm quite impressed so far, proof will be in testing of course.

My only gripes so far:

1) packing in PeliCase doesn't have all the right notches cut out, not as nice as laser-cut foam and would have been nice if the swing-away bracket/side rods could be permanently mounted to the metal plate when in the box (fiddly to keep taking on/off).

2) tons of machining dust on the extra parts (arms, wings, swing-away bracket and filter pouches) - don't dare to unwrap the filters without vacuuming out the case, the mattebox and the filter pouches.

3) and the same as this post:

...Some serration on the side rods to increase friction is also a good idea. I found the lateral movement lock is relatively ineffective. I have to REALLY tighten the knob in order to prevent the mattebox from slipping. Also I think it'll also help if RedRock can make the swing away arm a bit thinner laterally, I think that'll help bringing the mattebox closer to the lens, especailly with some short lenght lens like Zeiss Super Speed.

Finally, is the lining of the filter pouches non-scratch?

Anyway, most items I buy these days are so disappointing when opened, I found the mattebox to be genuinely exciting to open (like my Red), so that's got to be a mark of a good product.

Keep up the good work Brian!

Just in case...

Just in case...

In case anyone didn't get my ghetto sense of humor, I was actually kidding when I said earlier that the mattebox I received today had been ordered last week. I was messing with y'all. I was actually an early reservation holder and ordered mine early too. Just so you know, here in the ghetto when we make a statement followed by a pause and then the word "sike!" at the end, it means we're kidding. I hope this clears that up, Brian. And thanks again for this wonderful product; I'm enjoying this thing too much :-)

Adthrawn - thanks for the feedback. On the case, that is water jet cut which is the best you can get (laser would burn the foam) - are you referring to the actual cuts, or just the configuration of the case?

Jaadgy - thanks for the clarification ;)

Thanks again - as always feedback is appreciated and welcomed

Hi can anyone post the external front ( widest ) measurements of the Mattbox.
Just to assist with case planning.
Thanks, even though I have email advising of imminent arrival of mine this is a little urgent.

Brian

no yeah.. the rr followfocus works great.
i was thinking more in terms to reach smaller lenses without getting in the way of the camera .. i.e (shooting still lenses on red)
isnt the focus gear extreamly close to the lens mount?
