  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Gate Flare | Flaregate

Saw Doug's video... the flare we are concerned with is different. It is a ring-shaped flare.

Anyone experienced ring-shaped flares?

Brent, are all new Epic M cameras purchased from now on will have this permanent OLPF bushing solution?

Not yet, no. The permanent, integrated-into-the-manufacturing-process version is in the development stage as we speak. So, until that hits production, the OLPF Bushing Kit is the option we are offering.

How do we get it?

Can anyone provide an example, or a link to an example of the type of flare that this "fix" is meant to resolve?

We've got a client, an owner-operator of an EPIC M, that has been experiencing flare issues, under certain conditions with certain lenses. The type of flare I'm speaking of only presents when there is a very bright object (the sun, for example) in the frame. It presents as a ring-shaped flare and is usually reddish in color.

Thanks,

Jorge,

Doug Underdahl's video is pretty good - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6XSlvQvNAw

Doesn't sound like what you're talking about, though. Epic gate flare is very much like an Arri IIc without baffles ... presenting itself when the light source is just at the edge (or just off the edge) of frame.

To clarify, the removable version - we just got in initial units so we are taking care of existing owners with those, we have not cut it into general production at this time. So, it will continue to only be provided upon request...

Just received my unit and installed. Fit & finish - perfect. Installation - simple. Preliminary visual test - bombproof - better than Doug Underdahl's flare guard (thanks to Doug for the interim solution). Nobody wants these little glitches in an otherwise stunning camera, but the Red team has created an excellent solution. Nice work Red.

Just got mine too. Do I just smack it in there ore are there more elaborate instructions?

Phil,

Let me know if you would like us to send you the .PDF installation instructions for the OLPF Bushing Kit.

Will there be an announcement when the permanent solution is implemented into the production line of Epic/Scarlet?
