  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Forged CF Red Weapon #000027 has been delivered to Kosmos/ dino

I posted a video back on post 2...

Thanks Dino for the foolcontrol appearance in the video and congrats on your new camera ;-)

I tried running an auto-blackshade with the Weapon I had during NAB... It does take a little while to perform but then you're good to go for free of mind shooting at various shutter / frame rates.

Yes fool control works perfectly on the ad hoc network the camera sets up. U just have to set the iPhones wireless to the cameras wifi ( obviously you need to switch the wifi on the camera ON). Once the wifi is on and the phone is connected, launch the app, and the app searches for a camera, when it finds it, it places s logo for weapon and the unique camera number on the screen...merely click on the camera icon and viola, you can control the camera w your phone.

And n.p. Mikael...have to give props where props are due.

So Fool control works without any extra hardware ?
Whoa !/// dig that

yup, REDLink bridge was just a development kit to make apps and have them ready when Dragons with built in wifi would start flying :-)

So Rad.
Question, The Auto Cal seems to take about 25-30min, is it taking all resolution/fps/shutter combo's into account or just fps/shutter combos based on the one resolution you're calibrating at?

Thx!!! Congrats!

liking that rear side position for the cables and power.

thats one of my biggest pet peeves on this, IMO this lemo port should be rotated 90 degrees clockwise. handheld and steadicam ops, wont like the lemo sticking out. if these haven't been made in too big of numbers yet that would be my request.

With the black shade, you can see the FPS changing in the corner as time goes on. I don't remember seeing this functionality on Scarlet / Epic Dragon. Seems like it's calibrating for various settings over time, rather than staying constant - which is probably where the ability to freely switch shutter comes in.

added another version of video that is in 4k...so you can watch it and see more detail. i did it in a hurry so there is no music or titles...

it is in the #2 post.

also, regarding the questions...i little more sleep and ill answer them.

thanks

Once you run the Auto Cal, the sensor is calibrated over the full range of exposures (from 1 sec on down) and is very stable across the cameras usable temperature range. The calibration is maintained across boots and firmware upgrades.

so how often should it be done? from what you are saying it seems like you do it once and never have to do it again, is that true? what are the conditions that would have you question your cal, perhaps noise at the higher iso's?

It will really only need to be done if we optimize the sensor or calibration any further, which we will update in the firmware release notes (or notification upon install)

It's still a good idea to monitor noise with higher gain or ISO, and we do still offer manual calibration id there is a case that Auto Cal doesn't handle.

thank you...

i think this qualifies for a sean/nate video explainer for best practices...

I like the "notification on install" option...makes it easy as not everyone reads the release notes everytime they upgrade.

On the GIOscope, what I like to do is black shade so only the first level is purple across the entire sensor, since the current default is not to push the noise that far down (i.e. on the gioscope normally the first three levels are active after black shade, with the 2nd level being the dominant). Only way to push the black shade down a bit the current dragon is to black shade one stop faster on exposer (i.e. i shoot 24 fps at 1/48th, so i need to black shade at 1/96). Is there anyway to effect the black shade, so those that want to push the no information bits(i.e. first couple of lower order bits) down can with this new setup(i.e. since this exposure method will break my current method)?
