  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

foolcontrol for iPhone...

Fired it up via the hotlink today, very cool!!!! Can't wait for the accessories...

Quick question, how do I get the phone to vibrate when hitting the focus marks? I have an iPhone 5.

You need to have the phone set to vibrate on ring or vibrate on silent.

Then activate the little audio button in bottom right of foolcontrol focus page. This feature is still experimental and might be made better if it proves to be useful... Feedback welcome

Mikael, you said earlier that the price for fool control could rise after a while. Since I don't have my wifi connection yet I'd wait to purchase until I have. Any insight on when this could happen?

Thanks!

No price increase in coming few weeks. Will be when major new update is ready.

I will try to post here ahead of any price increase or send a mail to list@foolcolor.net if you want to receive a notification (won't share or spam your address, might be 5-10 foolcolor emails a year maximum)

Hey Mikael, I believe I remember you mentioned that a wireless video signal from the camera to fool control may be possible and a feature at some point in the future, I know this is probably very much still in-development and probably aunknown timeline or if it would ultimately work out at all etc. But I was just wondering if there was any more hinting or information you had to share, would the hypothetical feature be able to send a stream from the camera during recording (with a delay/lag due to it being over wi-fi etc.) or purely for playback?

Thanks!
Mohammed

Hello Mohammed

still working on this, but I am a bit busy with "normal" bill paying work (filming) lately ...
- will have a small latency due to wifi.
- will require an external 3rd party module (REDLINK CONTROL PROTOCOL is only camera control and not able to send any image data beyond histogram updates)
- will work during record but cannot say yet when and if it will be potentially usable for focusing purposes (due to the delay)

Hi Mikael,

Thanks for the response! Hehe very understandable about the normal work :)

It sounds like another amazing feature to add to your great apps, I was wondering what this 3rd party module may be, are we talking about some kind of off-the-shelf wireless HDMI video adapter, or something more film-specific, like a paralinx arrow?

Thanks again,
Mohammed

Trying to get this set up. I've got a gigabit network switch going into this wifi router...
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HZWOQZ6
I've connected to the router with my phone, but I don't think it's assigning the camera an ip address. Can someone enlighten me as to what settings I should have on the camera? I've got "Enable DHCP" checked, as well as "Enable External Control" but no luck.

Hi Caleb, not sure about this particular wifi router but it looks like the ethernet port is used for WideAreaNetwork aka 'internet' ("The Ethernet port can only be used as a WAN input port") thus it will not provide a DHCP address to the camera on that port... only on iPhone or wifi devices.

If there is a manual setup mode on the router config system, you could try like this :
IP 192.168.1.1 on the camera
NetMask 255.255.255.0 on camera
Gateway : 192.168.1.1 on the camera (same as IP)

On the router, "connect to the internet" on WAN port using manual IP :
192.168.1.2
Mask : 255.255.255.0
Router/gateway as 192.168.1.1 (camera IP)

If LAN turns green on camera UI you should be able to connect thru wifi to the camera...

let me know or PM / email me for more help if needed

I've used the Hootoo. I've got one in my backpack right here. I can confirm it can't work with the Epic even with a USB -> Gigabit adapter. It doesn't recognize USB ethernet adapters.
