  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

foolcontrol for iPhone...

Apologies if this has been asked and answered elsewhere, but I'm pressed for time and couldn't do a thorough search. I wound up purchasing an ipad Air2 recently. This is in addition to the ipod touch I bought a while back specifically to run foolcontrol. Does the license I purchased for foolcontrol entitle me to also install the app on the ipad Air at no extra charge?

Hi Mikael. Loving your app. A couple of feature requests:

Could you perhaps add a demo mode? It would be very useful to be able to show people the interface without a camera on hand. Maybe in the camera list when no camera is found you can add the option to enter demo mode. You could then populate the fields with dummy data.

It would be great if there was an easy way to set the focus limits to the closest and furthest marks.

Hi Robert and thanks for the feedback

Demo mode would require me to write a 'camera simulator' in order for foolcontrol to show anything beyond connection page. Most of the values and menus are populated directly by the camera and vary depending on model (EPIC, SCARLET, MX, DRAGON, WEAPON...). Altho I understand the need to have an offline mode I haven't found time to so this so far...

In upcoming update update min and max range are easier to set cia a direct button instead of the current slider... I'll see if it can be done also thru markers...

Just posted a new video (will post another one next week for all secondary pages including focus) to show all the App features in detail. This one covers Main page and some playback...

I'm not sure how I've missed all this awesomeness until now... seems like the perfect tool combined with a MoVi or Ronin + Wireless HDMI transmission when you already have a second operator for the Red. Unbelievably awesome!

Foolcontrol has definitely been an amazing tool for gimbal work but also for jib work and even slider work....it's an all around amazing tool!...especially combined with a hotlink...

Hi Mikael,

While I'm seeing the option under Tools to display the gioscope, I'm not able to adjust it. Could it be because I'm on still Scarlet MX firmware 5.3.29 (latest is 5.3.42)? Is it only compatible with a certain firmware onward?

Thanks!

Hello Kaan, the adjustment of gioscope thru RCP has been added recently in beta firmware... I've just added the code in iOS version and will add it soon in OS X and release an update in the following days for this and few other new parameters in both apps.

It will also work with MX once released...

Ah, I see. Thanks, Mikael! Fantastic app by the way.

Hey Mikael,

Not sure if you covered this already, but in one of the focusing demos, I saw that you could have multiple iOS devices simultaneously controlling the same camera. Has that option been disabled since the video? I tried to connect two devices to one camera but got an error message saying it couldn't connect because another device was already connected.

Thanks!

It depends on how you are connecting to the camera.
The camera supports multiple (8) connections over the Gigabit Ethernet port. However, the REDLINK BRIDGE only allows one active connection. I don't know what restrictions any of the 3rd party solutions (HotLink, HotBox, etc) might have.

Thanks, Trent! That must be it, as I'm using the REDlink Bridge to connect, not GigE.

The video was indeed shot while connected to the canera using GIG-E and a router...

Wifi devices allow for only 1 connection but I am working on something to allow multiple connection via wifi among other things.

Sounds intriguing! Will look forward to future developments. Thanks!

Sorry if it has been answered before, what is the MICROSTEP motor and where is it sold? Does i t work with the Iphone? I can barely see it at the bottom of the frame in this video:

but it doesn't show where it is connected. It would be great if it fitted on the Iphone somehow...
