  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

foolcontrol for iPhone...

Mikael-

Can you chime in on what the chances of using FC are with a camera in a water housing? Not while it's underwater obviously but once it's back on
land but without having to take the port off and remove the camera? Probably with just the basic antenna that comes with the camera, not boosted
with the one from WC or anything like that. I feel like the signal might have a hard time getting through the housing and you'd have to remove the
camera to connect to FoolControl but wanted your opinion. Have an upcoming shoot where I'd like to implement this but don't have the housing
in my hands yet to test.

Thanks in advance.

I really want to use Foolcontrol on my Scarlet Dragon (DSMC 1)
What is my best option for getting wifi to the camera? I use a V-mount on the back of the camera so RedLink is not possible I guess...

either use the battery belt clip, mount the battery on rods, or get the offhollywood hotbox or hotlink

Matthius, to allow space for the RED wifi module, mount the vmount plate onto a bracket and then stick it on top rails going backwards; see photo:
(for some stupid reason RU rotates this photo into landscape mode)

It works extremely well for me, even in adhoc mode.

Do you know which kind of housing you will be using. I guess it depends on the thickness but I have heard good reports of people using foolcontrol with internal antennas (or wooden camera extension) inside the housing while at the surface with no issue...

There are other options involving taking the signal out either thru ethernet / rs232 / fiber or via a simple passive antenna extension like experimented recently by nauticam...

Thanks to everyone who replied to Mathias on the DSMC1 wifi options. You can also use a teradek COLR which has a strong wifi ...

Thanks Mikael, probably going to be using one from SPL (http://splwaterhousings.com) made of lightweight aluminum. I may entertain the thought of buying
the extension from WC but I'll probably try it with the internal one on the camera first just to see if it works. I'll let you know what happens.

That antenna for the Nauticam is a pretty nifty solution..

Also if you can it is worth trying in infrastructure mode thru a router (even the small TPLINK WR802N powered by USB is a very helpful addition)

Thank you Chad and Daniel! :) Looks like I'll reconsider where I put my V-mount.
- Or maybe get the COLR as you mention Mikael. COLR probably does allot that I'll never use, as I don't know how to make LUT's and seldom use multiple cameras/monitors, but it's really not that much more expensive than the other sollutions. Wich it could work as a wireless monitor system, as I'm in the process of buying that too... (Probably getting Teradek Bolt or Paralinx Ace) Would be nice to have it all in one box..

Mathias, as far as I know the COLR will not transmit any image over wifi / wireless... it will just pass thru SDI and add a LUT (sent wirelessly) and can bridge foolcontrol signal from wifi to DSMC1 GIG-E (or DSMC2 if you have jetpack SDI with GIG-E).
That may change in rhe future maybe but do not hold your breathe...

Mikael, we recently updated our WEAPON 8K Helium and EPIC-W to 6.3.101 and now the Foolcontrol app does not populate any cameras after auto or manual rescan.

Both cameras have wifi on and we are able to connect to their ad hoc network but that is as far as we can get.

We have tried to punch in IPs manually but to no avail.

It should also be noted that neither camera will connect to our studio wifi. If we put in the wrong passcode it will reject the attempt but if we put in the correct passcode it gets stuck in a perma connecting cycle.

Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I tested 6.3.101 and did not have any issue here. Strange that it does the problem on both your cameras. Might not be related to the app if the cameras refuses to connect to infrastructure too.
Would be worth trying to wipe camera or re-install FW and if it is still the same, open a ticket and send a log file via red.com/support ...

If you are using an iPhone it can help sometimes to go to airplane mode and only enable wifi to avoid having iOS switch to cellular...

Thank you Mikael! We tried many combinations but not Airplane mode, which seems to have done the trick with the WEAPON.

We'll give it a whirl on the EPIC-W.

Thanks for the quick response and the great tool!

Hi,

is it possible to control the motion mount nd via foolcontrol or switch mode?
Couldn't find it in the lens options.

Regards

It should be right there on the foolcontrol main page (where there is HDRx when you have no MM installed).
Can change mode, ND values and display options for stops/value/fraction or display resulting ISO...

Let me know your FW version and camera model if you have another issue so I can look into it specifically.

Does anyone know how to clear focus marks inside of foolcontrol? I press “clear” but nothing happens. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Aaron

to clear coloured marks you have several ways of doing it :

- tap options (in focus page) and tap CLEAR MARKS (CLEAR DISC will remove the distance disc if any was loaded / created but not the coloured marks)
- swipe left on the colored mark area at top (then confirm)
- drag a mark down to remove an individual mark (leaving the other ones intact)

on the linear focus page, simply press the X button to clear all marks (coloured marks are shared between the 2 focus pages)

let me know if you need any more help, btw those shortcuts should all be explained into the ? help specific for each of app's pages
