  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First Look - Schneider Xenon FF-Prime Lenses

Would love a 60mm focal length in this set and that would be a fine choice for a Macro as well, IMO. :)

Seems the 100mm is still "any day now" as it has been for the past month or two... No other info than that.

Just talked to hot rod camera, two 100mm just shipped to them. (Takes a week from Germany) And more will ship each week, they hope end of august to get threw the back order.

My 100mm has been shipped from Matthew Duclos, to me, after passing QC yesterday.

The 25 mm has had some slippage until end of September/early October. The good news that the 25 and 18 are said to have improved optics, accounting for the delay.

Thank you very much

Expecting my 100mm very soon. I'm very sorry to hear about the slippage in the 25mm delivery schedule, but I'm sure it will be well worth waiting for.

Might sound weird but I wish the blue ring on the lens could be detachable or switchable to other colours....

Yeah, I wish I could swap the ring for lime green.

IMO, has too much of an Arri look with the blue ring. Haha. If it were red, it would have a Canon look... Gold would be Nikon...

I hope in the improved optics they were able to speed up the 18mm to T2.1 like the other lenses.

Hi Matthew,

That is what I read, between the line pairs, so to say, but, like everything in the lens production business, gotta wait for the production piece.

Thank you very much

Hi All,

Is it a good ideal if I combine the lens between Schneider and CP.2 (15mm & 21mm) or even Schneider Cine III (25mm) ? My heart is with Schneider Xenon but my work really need wide lens :(

Is there any significant colour difference between those 3 sets ?

By the way, do you guys have any solution to mount those PL lens to EF mount ? those lens sometimes would have to shoot on Canon body per customer request.

The lenses can be ordered with both mounts. They are user swappable.

This maybe a rather naive question, but why 24mm Xeon almost $2000 more than all the others. Noticed that on B&H all of the EF Xeons were $3999 and the 24mm was $5750.

Hi Tom,

This is generally the case, with wider lenses.

Thank you very much

The answer comes down to the cost of the wide glass itself. Harder to make a high quality wide angle than a more normal length. The Xenon FF-Prime 25mm T2.1 is a pretty good lens too.

This is also going to be the case on the 18mm T2.4. Remember there really isn't anything like an 18mm T2.4 on the market for the FF35 format. The best you'd get for that coverage is a rehoused still lens in the T3-T4 range. So that one will likely be a bit more cash as well compared to the rest in the series. The two main reasons the 18mm can't be a T2.1 come down to two things. Size and cost. The lens would be considerably larger and notably more expensive in reality.

I don't see any real harm in adding the 15mm or 21mm CP.2s into the mix. They do have a different look and aren't going to be a "matched set" by any means, but if you need wide glass for FF35 those are your options today.

The solution for mounting these PL lenses on EF cameras comes in the form of user replaceable mounts on the lenses themselves. Which the Xenon FF-Primes and Zeiss can do.

Hi Phil,

Could you please give your opinion of the Tokina 11-16, on the long end, for Xenon applications?

Thank you very much

The Tokina is an amazing value for what it is, but the prototype 18mm T2.4 Xenon is a vastly superior lens (and that's the pre-production model even). Not to mention that the 11-16 is designed for APS-C sensors. Corner performance is a whole different thing.
