  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Feels Like a New Sensor in Weapon

Yes - put a bit of a curve on it. But 800 in camera and left it there in Redcine.

Please post a link to the R3D of this if you are in the mood to share.

:)

I agree, it's the cleanest image I've been able to get out of the Dragon sensor. Funny, I did a very similar test as you Dylan, except mine was all 2000 ISO with the Standard OLPF

Nice stuff Bjorn. What ISO?

I think 800ISO or around there.

Even horse shit looks tasty with that lens :)

I believe, by now it is pretty much an accepted fact, that Weapon is much cleaner and ASA 2000 is the new ASA 800.
So, personally, I'd like to see and hear a discussion and hopefully some images addressing the high brightness region. How well does it retain details in those areas? I'd like to know, if the exposure envelope had been moved up toward more sensitivity at the expense of highlight retention? Or Weapon now sports wider DR in comparison to Dragon?

Can't seem to find it but does anyone have any CMOS Smear comparisons? That seemed to be / still is the Epic Dragon's weak spot, I'd love to see some samples of the Weapon Dragon if anyone has some.

Yep. From October 2015:

My focus today was on a specific stress test. CMOS Smearing. Like I said earlier RED Weapon has an improved optical path and some other voodoo that has changed things for the better on this front in a few ways. Here's a sample image:

Shot this today. Possibly my favorite combo.

Weapon @100fps, 180deg 6kWS and Dog Shildt Trump 38mm with 3.2f 3x black oval iris.

No grading, straight k5600 and some contrast, red gamma / dragon color 2.

Nice stuff Bjorn. I had hoped to shoot my test with the Trump - but Rich is overhauling it for me. I think it's a great combo! Ultra clean sensor with glass that has character!

Finally got a chance to play with my Weapon. My oh my it certainly feels different even with the same sensor. I was on the standard OLPF before the swap and it looks at least a stop cleaner now. It is crazy how much better it looks.

Whatever they are doing is working. The colors/cleanliness look vastly improved. Was not expecting that.

Agree. I've stated and feel without empirical testing that it is about a stop cleaner. I noticed it immediately upon powering up in my gear room which I am very familiar with since I prep a lot there. Noticed it right off the bat.
