Sorry for the "click bait" - but I was shocked to see how different the image feels with the Weapon. Just got my camera and we shot a quick test for an upcoming project. Ultra clean blacks. I honestly did't expect much difference in the image quality as this was mostly a "body/processor" upgrade. But I guess the processing is working some magic!

This was shot at 800 ISO. T 1.4 Cooke S5i. Standard OLPF (can't wait to test the low light). Conor balance at 5600 (for amber look).

No additional lighting. 1 candle. 1 match.

Thanks RED. I'm not one to scream like a fanboy - but here I am!

And thanks Bryan and Austin for making it all happen smoothly.

Glad to hear the vote of confidence. Out of curiosity, did you go MG or CF, Dylan? Just received my MG but haven't had a chance to play just yet...really hoping a lot of these IQ improvements are truly across the line, and not just a CF thing...

Cheers,
Clint

Shooting a Leo is always appropriate for a new RED.

I was shocked when I did a shoot recently with the Standard OLPF in my Weapon where the background was supposed to go black and the camera was seeing way more into the darkness than I was used to. Maybe my mind is just playing tricks on what I could see before on the Epic Dragon, but I felt like there was far more shadow info there.

Totally agree. I loaded up a custom film lut I made and it's beautiful. Really is a thick image

Awesome! Did you also process the image at 800 ISO?

Nice. It really is THE camera to beat right now. Simply an incredible device in every aspect.

Looks like you've found a good match Dylan :)

I've been rolling on the Standard OLPF a lot lately.

Haha Phil! Yes - I had been on Skin Tone one before. Maybe that's the big difference I am seeing. Looking forward to doing some more in depth testing.

Its more than the olpf.

I´m also surprised that people do not mention or talk more about the general improvement of picture quality. Dragon was really good still weapon is so much better.

It's so very difficult to use words to describe subtle image differences but I agree to my eye the Weapon does create an incrementally better picture. As part of an ACS test we put the Dragon, Weapon and Alexa up against each other as part of a DR test. Quantitative improvements in the shadows with the Weapon over the Dragon help make for an overall better image. I would also suspect the tweaks could offer some other small improvements in other camera performances areas.

I would still be happy to have an Epic Dragon as B camera as they should easily match as these improvements are subtle

I noticed this too. The image is much cleaner at higher ISO with Standard OLPF than it was with LLO on the EpicD.
It seems that it can be pushed close to 2000ISO without much fuss.
The image is also a little flatter at same gamma settings.

I still miss the STH though, it's on order for next week.
