  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC production...

It happens. I'm trying to get back into shape because it DOES make a difference when shooting with any camera.

Sadly, this is so true. I was shooting a band performance last night and was starting to feel the pain. My equipment was a canon 60d, rode stereo mic, and a hague stabilizer. After a half an hour of holding this up to catch the band's performance, it was weighing heavy on my arms and back. The performance lasted another thirty minutes. Needless to say, I was tired at the end.

P.S. Maybe when I get my epic-s I will make a workout instructional video specifically for us camera operators. :w00t:

The images running through my head for this video are hilarious. Camera operators doing chin-ups on jibs, curling big zoom lenses, bench pressing fully rigged Red Ones. The possibilities are endless.

:w00t: I need this video, if only so I can laugh at myself!

Will the production Epic (Epic S35) ship in a pelican case with the fancy accurate foam cut-outs?

Shipped by end of summer.

Hi JIm,

Mine's 1545. Same answer, or should I expect sooner? As a stage 2 customer, it was my understanding we would have "first dibs" on Epic X cameras in the order of our Red One camera delivery date. Still true? If so, can you approximate when we would receive our camera?

I understand the awful situation in Japan impacts things....

Any insight would be appreciated for business planning purposes. Also any insight into additional module availability at that time would be great - especially the pro I/O module.

Thanks!

Mark

Every Stage 2 customer will receive their camera before a Stage 3 customer and so on... all depends now on supply chain.

why can't people just be happy we're getting the EPICs and Scarlets this year? ITS OUT THERE NOW...so it means that its so close! Deposits etc. down fair enough, its been a year but who could've guessed what's been done...

Can you hear all the EPIC-M owners loving their camera saying it out does so many that are ON THE MARKET... It's what you put your money towards...a big piece of the awesome apple pie!! WOOHOO!

I'm definitely happy owning my RED One but more then happy to give it in, all this time owning it etc. and waiting for the next big and potentially final camera I would own makes it all the more, worth the wait...the development from RED Ones helped and now it's time to take this wicked leap into something that's...unheard of as some may say...

Can we all just be happy, accept potential delays and just enjoy the fact that 2011: The year of EPIC
Another 12 months of delay I'm sure everyone would scream and shout but its only max 4 more months till Stage 3 is done? 5 tops...
So start the countdown!

Thanks Jim. Understood. Out of curiosity, will the pro I/O module, side handle or Bomb EVF be affected by Japanese suppliers?

We see these as critical components for the work we do so I'm trying to get a handle on when these items might be shipping to stage 2 customers. I have a Bomb EVF on order and I am assuming that the initial supply chain issue on the EVF has been resolved. But with the disaster in Japan, I'm curious if it or the other components are dependent upon Japanese parts that have yet to ship. If that's the case I would certainly understand if there are further delays.

It seems that every EPIC M I've seen has a side handle so I'm hoping that's within your control. Hoping the same for the pro I/O.

I know you guys are doing your very best to deliver on everything. So not complaining just trying to plan.

I've also posted asking if the Epic lens mount will support LDS, but haven't gotten a reply yet. We talked in Vegas about that last year and my understanding is that it would be supported, so again, just curious if that's still happening on shipping EPIC X cameras, or something that will be enabled by firmware updates or an optional mount down the road.

Thanks in advance for any info, and I hope to see you at NAB!

The primary accessory we are concerned about right now for EPIC production and release is the Pro I/O module. I think we will be OK with Side Handles, SSDs, EVFs and REDmotes... but we are double checking everything given the current situation.

Again, most parts are US made but a few are not. I hope we can get a better picture as soon as we hear more news. That may take some time with our Japanese suppliers.

We still have plans on supporting the LDS protocol with a new mount, but it wont be until after the Canon and Nikon mounts and firmware are complete.
