  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC production...

The primary accessory we are concerned about right now for EPIC production and release is the Pro I/O module. I think we will be OK with Side Handles, SSDs, EVFs and REDmotes... but we are double checking everything given the current situation.

Again, most parts are US made but a few are not. I hope we can get a better picture as soon as we hear more news. That may take some time with our Japanese suppliers.

Jim

Are you saying the supply problems mainly effect the Pro I/O? What about the Epic brain it's self? Has production of the Epic X brain been effected as well?

BTW, I am not whining, ahem.. anymore. My little camera concerns are nothing compared to the problems of the Japanese people. Actually, I don't believed I ever whined, but I have been sitting around, drumming my fingers and checking Recon more than I probably should have. God Bless Japan.

Thank you!

Most of the EPICs that will ship before NAB will be EPIC-Ms, although some EPIC-X. Do you have an order in for EPIC-M?

Jim

What about serial number 509 and 1790? Do you anticipate before NAB for either of these?

Perhaps you might re-look at the first post of this thread...

...the total number of EPIC-Ms out now is in excess of 250. I think that is half the population of Alexa's. The number shipped EPICs should surpass 500 before NAB.

Jim

Math says 250 more EPICs will be shipped before NAB. You are 259+ EPICs shy of being in the "pre-NAB queue".

As Jim says, "The number shipped EPICs should surpass 500 before NAB"

So no offense, but I don't think the math is as clear cut as you imply. So the reason for my post.

also, that 500 surpass includes Ms not just Xs so...it's not as simple as 259 or anything but still, won't be a long wait, the minute the first X is out the door you know your going to be quickly served

Colin, Jim said that there will be about 500 Epics in the wild by NAB. This includes the 250 that are already out there, so now we are down to 250 new deliveries, which we have been told will "mostly" be Epic Ms. So let say a conservative estimate of less than 100 of those would be Epic Xs (probably closer to 50) and all this information came out before the disaster in Japan and interruptions in the supply chain. So it's safe to say that very few Epic X cameras will be delivered in the next 30 days.

Absolutely no offence intended (I'm desperate for my Epic too! :cheers2:) but of course Jim isn't going to comment on when a specific camera may or not be ready.

Even if he thinks it might, things like the Japan supply issue come up and it just changes again.

He gives us basic information and probably intentionally leaves it vague, to say exactly where they are at this exact moment, step by step.

My suggestion is we all just let them get on with the task at hand.

Believe me you will know when the first Epic Xs go out the door and most likely have a few weeks warning before your numbers come up.

That's what I'm doing and think it's the best.

I will happily keep waiting for our EPIC... We know it will be epic. Whenever it gets to us.

After the R1 experience... I have no doubts... Wish I had I had signed up for Epic-M though...

You also have to take into account that not everyone went stage 2. Colin's 509 is number 83 on the informal stage 2 list.

One of the frustrations is that there is not that much real information - even the posts are kind of ambiguous (I didn't say it - Elsie N did:)

More like precisely ambiguous. :smile5:

But then, any smart businessman will allow himself some wiggle room.

When we put our deposits on R1 5 years ago we got a titanium r with our serial number and we knew where we stood. I think there was even a " now serving" type of thread at one point. With stage 2 it's been almost a year since the deposit and we are still kind of in the dark. Those of us in the sub100 list thought we might get it in February when production started (after all, they seem to be able to make 100/month Even on the "hand built" line). Now we are left wondering if it's next month or might be delayed several months down the line because parts ran out.

It would be nice to at least get an email saying "you are number x on the stage 2 list" so we needn't try to guess.

I also second this because who opted for stage 2 should be clear list with our RED team.
This way you can estimate your delivery period and plan accordingly...or there are surprise related to stage 2 at NAB 2011. ...maybe a clear list of stage 2 at RED NAB booth...who know?

We can only give delivery dates for EPIC-M customers currently.. as that is what we are producing on the lines right now. EPIC-X we will begin to give delivery estimates once we get them on the line and start getting them out the door.

As you all have witnessed first hand, we have been burned many, many, many, many, many times.. many times.. many many times :) trying to guess when cameras will ship before we actually have them in boxes ready to go out the door.

Dont let it get you down Jarred, just keep on trucking!

No one remembers if it was late, only how awesome the camera will be :-)

Hi Jarred,
I registered for the M program with RED serial #329. Is it looking like the M program will reach that far before Stage 2 kicks in?
