  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC production...

I am still proud, to be one of the early birds in Europe with my RED 222. I could afford an EPIC M, but it's against my philosophy, that money should be the only reason, to stay in the first line. My reasons to shoot on RED and hopefully soon on EPIC are still the same as at the beginning of this great story: passion for picturs and quality. Until I wait for my EPIC, my RED 1 does the job perfectly. One of the main reason to change to EPIC as soon as possible is the weight: I'm getting old ;-)

Most of the EPICs that will ship before NAB will be EPIC-Ms, although some EPIC-X. Do you have an order in for EPIC-M?

Jim

I emailed Kelly on day one or two to be put on the list, and followed up a while later when I didn't get any response - got something back saying I was on the list and would be contacted. Have never heard anything since.

It's not a huge deal since it probably only makes financial sense for me if I partner with someone, kind of like Gibby did with Ketch on 008, since Epic-X is to come soon after.

The little head start on making housings would help a bit but it's not critical - I'm 97% there design-wise just from the photos and dimensions, and can have housings ready within just a few weeks of someone that has an Epic needing one.

I have some questions, so I'll send you an email.

Looking forward to seeing all the new toys at NAB.

i need the epic because i have lost my muscles since i am married...

and june 28 is the estimated delivery date of our baby, want to shoot the little with an epic.

perfect satisfaction here if this becomes true

It happens. I'm trying to get back into shape because it DOES make a difference when shooting with any camera.

Congrats on baby! I have a large archive of footage of my little one shot on R1, and it's by far my favorite footage I have captured with the camera. If I had an Epic, not sure I would ever put it down. I would need a warehouse to store all the data backups.

Hi Jim

What is your current thinking on how far/long the Epix-M's run will go? Obvously their equity is reduced a tad once Epic-x ships but I still feel it is an interesting offering for the market (especially to hire companies and those of us whose lives have changed with Red).

We all have our own personl and business formulas for establishing the value (to us) of a piece of equpment. Sometimes even emotions play in ;-) Any help from you guys is apreciated..

thanks

Michael L

It's been stated that EPIC-M's will be made until the demand has run out. Obviously, we can't stamp a date on that...

Thank you Jim for being in touch and for all information you published.

We have feature film shooting starting on 1st of June.
My Red is #1584 and informal Stage 2 thread (reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51814&page=30) shows my #1584 at #169 in line. Wondering if it is possible to get 169th Epic-X by 1st of June because in other way i should find other small camera for shooting action scenes and which image could be ok to be cutted with MX footage.

Will be very helpful to know your thought.
Thank you and sorry for asking you again to make this kind of prognoses.

I don't see how those type of threads really help people. Especially if they think that that queue comes anywhere close to representing one's place in line.

There's a large number of users of a RED One who aren't on REDuser.net. Still more, probably didnt see the noted thread.

Maybe someone can show me what I'm missing? :)

Sorry to take it off topic just briefly, now back to the topic... :smile5:

This is probably very good news for many of the M owners since most of them are probably low numbered R-1 serial numbers. Now they can get their X cameras and have two. Good on them for having the good sense to adopt early.

Really starting to wonder why I bothered forking out $5000 nearly 12 months ago to try to get at least somewhere near the start of the queue.

Looks like I would have been better off making 5000 posts on reduser going wooohooo.

Thanks!
I'm waiting my email ;)

As far as I can see, the guys getting the Epics so far have done just a bit more than go "wooohooo." And I imagine they have paid their own deposits as well. :coolgleamA:

Cam... you are an early depositor. We know that. Did you want an EPIC-M or EPIC-X? What exactly did I post that gave you the impression you aren't early?

If we do disappoint, which is certainly not our desire, deposits are fully refundable at any time.

Jim

Also know that the 1st EPIC-Ms were kept close to us since they are not finished. Neither Fincher nor Soderbergh got theirs because they were filming in Sweden and Hong Kong respectfully. Here I go explaining every decision... not something I really want to do.

I guess we go back to the place where we are trying to make all this work and keep early adopters happy. If we aren't, we'd appreciate a private note (to Brent and Kelly). If you feel compelled to post your disdain here (which you have every right to do)... it really doesn't motivate us too much.

Jim
