  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC production...

That's a lot of machined cameras. I guess not everyone is prepared to boast about having an epic after the french incident.

We are in the process of moving EPIC production from Stage 6 at RED Studios Hollywood to the permanent location in Irvine. There will be a bit of downtime during the move.

We have heard some competitors say that we have only shipped a few EPICs out to "my friends". While it is true that some early RED ONE customers, which also happen to have become my friends, have received EPIC-Ms... but the total number of EPIC-Ms out now is in excess of 250. I think that is half the population of Alexa's. The number shipped EPICs should surpass 500 before NAB.

Jim

Great news! EPIC M's or X?

Thanks Jim for the update. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.:cheers2:

Can you please clarify, you mean 500 EPIC-(stage 2's) or EPIC-M, or a combination of M's and Stage 2's?

I miss Irvine, a different world to being here in UK. Congrats on 250+, and we've only heard about 5% of those. after NAB its gonna blow up. Really exciting! can't wait

Epic Production

Epic Production

Hi,
250 Epic M in 4 months approx if we assume that EPIC M were into production from Nov 1,2010 ie around 63 EPIC 'M" per month.Assuming that all goes well and EPIC 'X' production is 15 times the production of EPIC 'M' on then we should have at least around 1000 EPIC 'X' by NAB out in the market ie 30 days from now.

Just assumption and I hope it is a 'correct' assumption..what say?

Cheers for EPIC times ahead.

Harcharan:cheers2:

Jim,

I find it interesting that competitors would say you have just shipped some cameras to a few friends as if it was some personal toy camera.

It is common knowledge that we have been shooting with 15 Epics for five months on a 200 million dollar feature and that Peter Jackson has been shooting with them for some time on Hobbit.

Great Toy my friend,

Peter

I'm curious whether the Epic M guys are given the option to get the M version and then choose not to buy the X version they put a deposit on.

If that's the case, then the M program speeds up the Stage 2 program somewhat.

I would love it if the balance of the "500 Epics by NAB" were all going to be Epic X's but the next 250 Epics, IMO are probably a mix, with 70/30 ish in favor of X's. RBTL, I think the move to Irvine reflects a move to Epic X. M's were build on Stage 6, but I'm guessing (I admit there is a lot of speculation here) that parts and people are moving down I-5 to ramp up Epic X while Epic M's are finished up in Hollywood. So hopefully 150, or so, Epic X's get delivered in Early April just before NAB.

It seems I read somewhere that the M buyers have to execute their upgrade a forfeit their stage two Epic X, in other words, their M replaces their X.

it should be obvious that once you start manufacturing and distributing RED ONE and EPIC cameras, you make a lot of new friends... :smile5:

probably a handful of non-friends, too... :smile5:

these are very impressive numbers, and it is looking good for my May shooting schedule to have two Stage 2 EPIC cameras on hand...that is up to four RED cameras on set...bam!

thank you for the update. these are very impressive numbers.

Music to my ears.
