  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Element Technica have been busy....

looks like I gotta check why they are not sorted by IP address like on OS X... and fix that :-)

I was about to send you skype message :)

It would actually be BETTER to sort by NAME alphabetically (A-Cam, B_Cam, etc.) - because if I use the auto generate IP when connecting to a router - sometimes it picks out of order.

Will see about choosing sorting options then... on the Bennet/Gaga shoot they preferred to be able to sort using manually assigned IP addresses to the 12 cameras...

Yes - you will want to sometimes sort via manual IP - but - for many 2-3 camera jobs - alphabetical faster/easier for many folks :)

Not entirely sure how I feel about that. Since the 4 screws that hold the SSD on to the brain aren't exactly 'substantial' so hanging heavy items rather than using a cage MAY be a deal killer. But we'll see.

Hey everyone!

Very excited to see all of the enthusiasm for the new Scale Armor! We're very proud of this kit, and we're anxious to get it into everyone's hands ASAP!

You can check out some more info about the kit on ET's newly redesigned website, and get you pre-order in and save 10%:

To address some of the questions in the thread:

- The SSD Door insert shown is for the 1.8" Media. A second insert will be released in the near future for the Mini-Mag.
- The Camera Left and Camera Right Side Plates both tie directly into the Scale Armor Top Plate and the Scale Armor Shim Plate for our Hybrid products. So the only direct points of attachment to the camera body are on top and on the bottom. When it's fully built up it is SOLID.
- If you look closely, you might recognize a familiar pattern in the Scales! ;)

More pics coming soon!

Spread the word, and thanks for your continued support...

It's affixed with 4x M3 bolts I wouldn't worry. The fact that people use such large bolts on accessories is super mega overkill. Let's put some math behind this. Since it's a pretty long bolt (1/2") we really only need to worry about shear forces not the threading being stripped (e.g. the side panel getting cleaved free with a blow straight down perpendicular to the bolts). That would have to break 4 bolts. Each has a cross section of (3mm radius/2)^2 * pi = 7mm^2 -> .01 square inches.

The Shear Strength of a grade 8 steel bolt is 90,000 PSI * .01 square inches = 900 lbs * 4 bolts = 3,600 lbs. I feel like I would be more worried about the piano that just fell on you than the bolts holding the SSD reader. :D

Also fun side fact the C-130 cargo plane's wings are attached with 28 3/4" bolts. So that's about 50 sq inches of bolt. Compare that to a lot of top plates on Epic which are affixed with 2x 1/4" and 4 M4s you're looking at about 1/2 square inches of bolt. In other words most top plates are as strongly affixed as 1% of a C-130's wing. Total overkill.

100x Epic top plates = both of these guys' wings.

BADASS breakdown Gavin. Thank you for the illuminating analogy. Very cool.

Steve,

Will the mini-mag door insert be a separate purchase?

Good question Stacey. Yes, the Mini-Mag door insert will be available as a separate purchase OR as part of it's own kit.

Here's what we'll do so that Mini-Mag owners can benefit from the pre-order sale:

We've added another link on the website for the kit with the Mini-Mag Door for pre-order. The other parts in the kit will be ready to ship before the new door insert, so we'll ship those to you as soon as they are ready and you can use it on your camera minus the door insert temporarily. Then, when the new insert is available a few weeks after the main product launch, we'll ship it to you and cover the shipping ourselves.

Here is the new link:

Those of you who have already gotten your pre-orders in will be contacted to determine which version you would like, and your order will be adjusted accordingly...

How much weight does a full kit add to the camera?
