  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Early Adopters...

To us.. it is everyone who took a chance and dropped down that deposit for a place in line before we started shipping the RED ONE on August 31, 2007.

So there it is.. our definition of an early adopter.

If you are in that group, thank you again. If you are not sure if you are in that group, make sure you figure it out before NAB.. it will be important.

Better be late than sorry... RED ONE 2119, ordered July 31st 2007 !
Does it count more if we still have the camera (Now working as a 'retired' MX stage 2) ?

Early adopter #265/#266.
First Italian Reduser.

At your service, Sir.

We remember the early adopters well... Those that believed in Jim's vision when it was still an impossible dream, those that stood in line and paid deposits when everyone told them that RED was a scam...vaporware..snake oil....those that believed that everyone else's good was not good enough.
To some.. when they hear early adopter they think the first 50. or the first 100. or the first 1000.
If you are in that group, thank you again. If you are not sure if you are in that group, make sure you figure it out before NAB.. it will be important.

You are welcome!
Best

I was number 37 until late that first night when Bank of America called me and said they have canceled the transaction due to a "Scam" "Fraudulent" transaction.

Came back to the Red booth the next day but some how #37 was already given away since the &#@$^%$# bank canceled the deposit.

So I had to settled for #191 the next day.

I have bought RED One, Epic-M, Epic-X, and Scarlet. One of each since.

See you at NAB RED.

Michael Thornton

P. S. I had $30 left in my bank account after that deposit too.

I remeber when I send a fax (sound so old...) to confirm our reservation for #782/783 it was end of october '06, I was just married...
Now we're almost done with an other 2 years waiting list and we'll receive our Summilux-C next month and hopefully a couple of Dragons before summer and... I've got 2 kids!
Many changes since RED has opened the market, thanks Jim,Jarred,Alan & everyone@RED hope to see you next september @ IBC

Only hen my Life story Film Perseverance will come out, will be understood how much I did believed in RED and the sacrifices made to be able to be part of it, convinced that it would have literally been part of changing my life, and so it has been beyond what words can say, only my films will tell the full story.

And even so my R1's didn't made it this far, they sure did pave the way to an insane RIDE with RED, the RED Team, and many of the guys here in this community, and for this I love this place even more, I said it many times, RED is not just a camera company for me, it's a family, a family that I am truly proud to be part of, and I thank every one's efforts made to continue to serve our needs, and the Dragon upgrade for our EPIC Cameras will be the latest attestant to that commitment form RED, what more can we ask??? Love you guys, and Thank you!!

"A magic" moment for me, even so short leaved.

Even so the R1's are not more with me, I can always look back and remember with this very super cool pieces of history, now in the company of RED's new generation.

Jarred – I think it's a major achievement that so many of us early adopters are still here, still happy, still talking on these forums, trading ideas & dreams. That's a major accomplishment to foster a friendship with us over so many years and keep us (crazy, demanding) people around. We've all grown our careers together, in no small part thanks to this forum and the relationships we've built over the years (not to mention the cameras).

Not everybody's still here, but here's to the Toia's, the Sanjin's, the Pawel's, the Tonaci's, the Ketch's, and all the rest of you guys who've stuck around here for all these years. And well done RED for keeping it interesting enough for us to keep coming back.

Time to go find some scotch and drink to that

Thanks Trevor, even so I had a moment, I will never leave this fantastic community I call home, I love it too much and many of you here am proud to call friends... ;)

I guess I wasn't a true believer since I didn't put down my deposit until IBC. Please help a fellow European out. I believed just as much in you as the next guy. :-)

Oh man, I'm tripping down memory lane with this thread... What an amazing time that was for me. Met so many cool people, and made so many great friends...

I still have to chuckle when I remember how disappointed I was to have a reservation # so high as RED #81 LOL I wanted to be in the 1st 10! Why oh why didn't I fly in Sunday night, I know I could have wrestled Mark and Gibby for their spot's, well..... Maybe not, hehehehehehe :)

Thanks to RED, and all the users for making my RED ride amazing.

I have to admit that by August 31, 2007, I didn´t know about the existence of RED down here in Argentina... It was not until the end of that year or the beginning of 2008, while I was talking with an old friend who lived in Italy about investing in some cinema equipment, that he mentioned a so-called RED camera: "If it does half of what they claim it does, it´s a marvel" were his words. I vaguely recalled having seen an ad in AC Magazine or read something in the section "New Products and Services" (never found it again). By end of February or early March 2008, I had paid the deposit for R1 #3392 and 3394! (I payed for the first one, hesitated a bit and payed for the second one... someone had already payed the deposit for #3393...) Among the first cameras to reach the country.

Cant make it to NAB, shooting a TV Movie with both cameras in the Austrian Alps , so please please keep us posted here on the forum whats going on at NAB.

Thanks for beleiving in RED everyone and especially Jim, Jarred and Ted

August 31, 2007...incredible how time flies when your having fun. One hell of a journey RED...looking forward to NAB and hope to see you all there. Cheers.

I remember a vfx friend of mine telling me to go check out a camera called red - going to the website and all it said was, something like:

HD/film is dead. 4k is the future... and a size comparison of the different resolutions. under 20k usd.

Then when you could place deposits I was heavily buried in a crazy film project, so I asked my friend who was also buying, to place the deposit for me, which he did...
months later I found out, you couldn't transfer ownership or warranty at the time - so I went allll the way back in line to 4619....

But here 6 years later - looking at the work i've done on my RED and now EPIC, - and the fantastically generous EPIC upgrade deal I received. I don't care if I am considered early adopter or not. I am one
happy customer no matter what:)
