  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Early Adopters...

I think I got the sweet spot Blair –*#182. Far enough down the line that we got working audio in our firmware (well, sort of... after I upgraded WHILE on a shoot in Rwanda, no less, with only three working CF cards and a camera that arrived by FedEx the night before our flight... that was a good story.)

Ah, build 12. Those were the days.

From the 2nd email I ever received from RED, the first one being an 11/06/06 reservation confirmation. Signed by Ted:

"We are proud to have all of you a part of our "REDCORE".... those that have chosen to be a part of the brave 4k future we are pursuing here at RED."

Interesting that Jarred today sounds just like Ted in 2007.

I think Jarred meant that anyone who put down a deposit before cameras started shipping are golden. I'm sure you are well inside the range, Pawel.
 
I think if you have a magic R you're probably good. Can't remember how many were given out but I vaguely remember somewhere around 1000.

If you placed a deposit down on a Red One before Aug 31, 2007 and took delivery of that Red One, you are in that leap of faith group.

EDIT: While I can post a truer number on Monday when I can have the report run - if I remember correctly, when we first started shipping RED ONE, there were about 2250 or so reservations for RED ONE. So, if you are a serial number before that and have been riding the RED crazy train since then....well, thank you.

I think any of the depositors would agree if asked, that RED has been generous enough already to make the company and the customer even-Steven. And now they reward us again. Anyone got a hanky? I think I've got something in my eye. (sniff)

ha ha wow i remember that day like it was yesterday... so badass. Amazing how far everyone in that photo has come in such a short time.

Wow thanks for reminding me. We had a historian guy go back and document the whole thing and was going to put something together.. but then we got distracted by building the future instead of remembering the past. One day we will hafta put all that stuff together.

So there it is.. our definition of an early adopter.

If you are in that group, thank you again. If you are not sure if you are in that group, make sure you figure it out before NAB.. it will be important.

I remember reading on HD for Indies that Jim Jannard was behind this rumored RED camera and I immediately put a deposit down for 2 REDs on a credit card. I had 100% confidence that the man behind Oakley would create something awesome. Can't wait to see everyone at NAB!
 
I just recently donated #1350 to a local University and it was great thinking about all that decision to place that deposit has done for me.
Thanks guys, One of the best decisions I ever made.
 
Jarred – I think it's a major achievement that so many of us early adopters are still here, still happy, still talking on these forums, trading ideas & dreams. That's a major accomplishment to foster a friendship with us over so many years and keep us (crazy, demanding) people around. We've all grown our careers together, in no small part thanks to this forum and the relationships we've built over the years (not to mention the cameras).

Not everybody's still here, but here's to the Toia's, the Sanjin's, the Pawel's, the Tonaci's, the Ketch's, and all the rest of you guys who've stuck around here for all these years. And well done RED for keeping it interesting enough for us to keep coming back.

Time to go find some scotch and drink to that :thumbsup:

I'd love to say "I looked so young then!" but I'm fairly certain that I look almost exactly the same.

I was there when the single-digit owners were putting their money down back at NAB in 2006... and I didn't have a dollar to my name to get in line. Funny how it goes!
