  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC-2, The Weapon, The Scarlet-W and the Raven and the improvements that they bring.

Jarred i know you hate this question but i gotta ask again :( Whats the latest status of new PL mount with LDS support?

I don't hate the question at all we already proceeded development on that remember. It is now sitting in Arri's hands for approval to move forward.... it has been for the last month. If you know anyone over there, you can bug them about it, hopefully they are just all on extended holidays :)

You guys have done enormous increase on tech improvement in last few years! How many people working at RED HQ?
Is it gonna be free upgrade and standart thing on PL mounts in future or different version of PL mount?

Lots of things in this thread I didn't know. Thanks for putting all the advancements and features in one place.

Sticky?

Jarred, any chance you will make a magnesium Canon mount with captive screws? I realize it would be crazy-stupid-expensive. :) Was thinking of the case where you might have to tweak for 8k and it sounds like the Canon mount on Raven has been refined.

Any chance of posting a pic of the 8k vs. 6k OLPF so we can see the size difference? Or just an 8k with the lens mount off like you have for the 6k.

What's the tiny perforated grill just above the logo coin for?
Great stuff! Thanks for posting this Jarred. I can't wait for my Magnesium upgrade number to come up...

That's a speaker :)

Great point Phil, thanks for pointing this out.

Instead of being down a setup for weeks due to an "oops moment" for weeks, the whole point of failure can be swapped out in a few minutes (or delivered in a couple days)

minutes (or days) vs weeks possible downtime - another impressive improvement.

A lot of people were surprised that no DC, HDMI, or HD-SDI was included on the camera from the get go, but if you think about common points of failure during 1-5+ years of daily camera use (damaged ports and cable snags) I think it makes a lot more sense because you'd likely only be down a module and not have to send the entire camera in for repair.

I FREAKING KNEW IT.... I F^&KING KNEW IT.
"Might be boring to some of you.. but these ASICS are a work of art. They have dozens of layers of magic in them"
YEP I KNEW THESE CAMERAS HAD MAGIC IN THEM BUT NO ONE BELIEVED ME. NOW MR LAND just confirmed it!
I knew I wan't crazy....... I just knew it.

Anything new on gyro read outs on the weapon cameras?

Having 8k, a wide lens and gyro data and a nice VFX/Post plugin to post stablize I think would be a really big leap forward.

Having the ports (HDMI, power and SDI) on the side as opposed to underneath is SO MUCH BETTER. I am not sure how many have had the pleasure of trying to remove an SDI cable from EPIC. :)

The XL module with battery is a nice counter balance to the lens. I really like the low profile of the XL batteries and I get decent run times. The new Anton Bauer Cine batteries look similar. The XL module is also a charger.

Any hint to share about those mysterious M3 threads below the REDMAG / media module ?
Or is it simply some future-proof secret tech waiting patiently on the side ?
