  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon....

Gets delivered by dragon air. :)

Ha ha... Love it!!

But you guys are pointing in the WRONG direction... ;)

Oh, I get it, you are actually telling the DRAGON were to go... ;)

Thanks for the pic's Phil, you'd be a good man to give the Dragon's a beta test. I'd like to see that footage.

+1 for Phil Holland.

Phil, can you confirm that Dragon will be more low light sensitive than Epic X? Seems by the pictures that you guys were shooting available light and probably into sundown?

Cheers for that Will. I'd love to actually put together a demo shoot for Dragon. Actually was thinking about something today to show it off in the right light.

Chris was actually shooting well into the night with those Kowas, which aren't exactly super speeds.

From what I could observe when I had Dragon in front of me at night is that it certainly sees more into the darkness. Exactly how much? Couldn't say, but anybody who shoots often on Mysterium-X will notice an immediate difference on that histogram.

Don't mind the light eminating from his pants. He's gonna get that checked out :) It was a real treat to watch Chris knock out some setups.

No, the Dragon just dropped the camera/delivered to Mark Toia on set and on time.

The Dragon is late. But he just showed up and he is wicked pissed off... run for cover.

Dragon samples yet??

I was just working some realistic light renders (for vfx) using high dynamic range images, where the image actually lights your vfx to make more photorealistic vfx. [hdr based lighting for vfx really speeds up the workflow, since you don't have to create fakes lights in the vfx engine, and the lighting can change per frame which is reflected in the vfx ]

Anyway, with the huge dynamic range of the dragon, it would be very nice to take frames and convert them to HDR formats directly out of redcine-x(main format is HDR but high dynamic range images can be outputted through openexr ... maybe redcinex can do this all ready if the hdrx mode is on when it was shot?).

Dragon is amazingly cool ... keeps me up at night thinking ... going to be like xmas mourning when i was 5 when i get mine!

Great pic Phil. Of course, perhaps some explanation is in order... This was a very run and gun shoot thrown together last minute. I had about 3 crew members total for camera, grip AND electric! I had no AC whatsoever... You can see in this pic I'm pulling my own focus while handholding a 50mm Kowa anamorphic wide open.

The actor is walking through a foggy junkyard after a complete power outage armed only with a flashlight. However, I needed a little eyelight in his eyes from down low like it was coming from his flashlight.... Since I had no crew, I grabbed an LED work light and hung it off my belt. But at 1600 iso, it was way too strong, so I draped my shirt over it to soften and knock it down.

Our jobs as cinematographers is to use our experience and taste to inform us what an image needs to make it work for us. This shot needed an eyelight, but I had no crew to help me achieve it. So the dick light was born! This of course amused all around to no end, especially Jarred who perhaps thought I was completely off my rocker! When I'm shooting I have zero time for pride or putting on appearances. If I was shooting the President and the shot demanded a dick light, so be it!

Such a glamorous christening of the Dragon eh?

not everything... you can't make illegal sizes that split the sensor columns in a bad way, but you will be able to get very close though then use frame guides to box it in.

Wow, this sounds like a nightmare for the poor developers.
I hope it works out in a way that is mathematically straightforward!

Wow! Jamie and his magic torch!

er, anyway. I'm wondering if the pattern on your shirt caused problems with the diffusion, and if it still worked as an eye-light like that? I have to say I don't think I will be trying it any time soon, but I do understand that desperate times call for desperate measures.

So about this Kowa anamorphic. Is that a one piece anamorphic lens and does it actually cover the full 6K? Perhaps it's easier with anamorphic lenses as the side of the sensor are cropped I assume? Tell me more about this. The whole Kowa thing seems really interesting. Did you only have the one focal length?

Im sure the competition is running. :-)

Competition? What do you have in mind? The St George Camera? ;)
I think the Dragon will be its own thing, and hope to see people do new and interesting things with it.
