Dragon Update

So Jarred -how are those calculations for the Epic-M upgrade to Carbon coming?

It'd be great if we could all refer to this as the "Carbon Upgrade" so we all don't have to read through 100 posts from people asking if it pertains to the EPIC-X or the SCARLET....

Hopefully Jarred will start a separate thread soon that explains it all.

i would like to send my epic m in for a carbon dragon upgrade TODAY!

Make it happen Jarred and be gentle on the upgrade price. My money has been in your bank since April

I can't imagine the price being any different than the surcharge Carbon Dragon owners paid over purchasing a regular Epic-M... In that case, approx. 10K for the sensor and 20K for the Carbon/Magnesium upgrade... THAT'S what everyone should be expecting...

Actually I would expect it to be more expensive, not by much but at list by the amount of Tech hours needed to first take a part the Aluminum bodies in order to replace those parts with the Magnesium ones, and then put it back together with the Carbon components as well.

Agreed - but it's also possible that it's is slightly more as I suspect it's actually more labor intensive to upgrade than build from scratch - and we don't really know how much of the approx. $10K upgrade fee is hardware vs. labor - I can't imagine it would be less than approx. $30k - I suspect we will all know soon enough :)

Well the number crunch will dictate the costs...how many Epic M and X owners would entertain the carbon upgrade? That is the question.

I have two M's. Count me in.

We have committed to doing this.. but we need another 10 days or so to get all the numbers together from all the teams involved. It is a complete camera disassemble since so many parts are changed in the process to goto Carbon so everyone in manufacturing and assembly is involved in this.

But don't let that $care you, Our assembly team are little ninjas and they can break down a camera and build it up pretty quick, so we should hopefully be able to get closer to Chris Probst's assumption rather than the other way.

I would probably upgrade my X at the same time to carbon if allowed and if i could get a good price.

Which is an AMAZINGLY fair deal! I had to shoulder the resale loss of value on my Epic M to go directly to a Carbon... THIS path allows one to avoid that fee entirely. I can foresee a slightly different pricing from going from an Epic X to Carbon, than an Epic M, since there was a premium paid on the M already and the Carbon bodies are all Epic Ms...

Makes me wish I kept my original Epic brain and carbonized it!

Intriguing. Looking forward to what emerges. I'd definitely be on board the EPIC M to Carbon upgrade train....RED cams are getting heavier as I get older!

I am willing to get Carbon Fibre DRAGON Monochrome...make it happen Jarred :)

Hi guys,

My assumptions on the EPIC M /X price to DRAGON CARBON FIBRE are as follows:

!. RED EPIC M to RED DRAGON CARBON FIBRE (USD 9500 - original cost of upgrade+USD12000) = USD 21500

(As EPIC M owners are already in front line and upgrades may start this month, so most owners may wait for their original upgrade and not take the CF path. Also M owners have paid already paid a premium)

2. RED EPIC X to RED DRAGON CARBON FIBRE (USD9500-original cost of upgrade+USD18000) = USD 27500

(This will be a very attractive price for many EPIC X owners as they are right now far away from the upgrade)

RED can send a mail to all the M or X owners who have already opted for the upgrade and offer upgrades based on their date and timestamp of booking of original upgrade. That way everyone
will have an option for opting for new scheme.

I hope with these options opening up the orginal upgrade process do not get derailed.

Thanks

Harcharan

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it would seem people are equating 'carbon' with 'now'- surely that's only the case for outright purchases. Upgrading I would expect to be just an alternative upgrade at the time your number's up?

I think it has to be 'NOW'......otherwise what is the point in paying the extra money for the upgrade apart from a one pound lighter camera...

Not sure how you guys started going down the parth of assuming a pricing structure depending on what Epic you have... There will not be different pricing going to Carbons from Epic-Ms or going From Epic-Xs... since the cost for us to go from either is the same.. To get to a Carbon we swap out all the parts that made each Epic special so the net result is the same.

There is no Dragon Carbon-M or Dragon Carbon-X... Just Carbon Dragon.

You first upgrade whatever Epic you have to the Dragon sensor.. then you can choose to upgrade to the Carbon Dragon, much like Chris originally suggested. Many of you that havn't taken delivery yet and want the Carbon version will likely do that it at the same time when your cameras come in.

Make sense?
