  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon / Epic / Scarlet Camera Release Build v5.1.34

Yes I did connect directly to the monitor (even swapping different hdmi cables) and didn't get any signal. Thanks

No, I didn't. Unless you have any suggestion I can try. Thanks

Definitely verify that you at least have HDMI active and also that you have Enhance Auto Focus function turned off in the Focus menu.

Edit: I forgot HDMI is on all the time now. Check the Enhanced auto focus though

Anyone else having issues with the external monitor (HDMI & SDI) signal dropping out for a milisecond while the camera is running? I used this build on a job yesterday with an Epic-X and had more issues in a single day than I have had in the last two years combined. At first when I was testing the build the day before the shoot I had issues like at least one person in this thread with the HDMI signal not coming up on either an HDMI monitor or over my paralinx arrow. I did find that going into the focus menu for a few seconds would make it start outputting. Whatever, I can deal with that. But then this signal dropping issues started during my shoot yesterday. On the RED LCD I would see the timecode blink for a milisecond and then the AC and director would say their SDI feed would drop out for a second or two while it reconnected. Over HDMI it was even worse because it seems HDMI just takes longer to reconnect with the arrow. Then, when I was doing playback, the clip would suddenly stop playing. I could normally scrub through the entire clip and see that it was there, but playback would always quit at some point. I thought if I disconnected external SDI and HDMI monitors that it would work, but that didn't work either. In the end I switched back to 4.0.18 for today's shoot and had not one problem. Anyone else seeing any of these issues?

Matthew, we had that same issue on a previous build and after all of our huffing and puffing it had turned out to be the hdmi cable itself. Have you tried other cables?

TRUST ME...there's something going on in this build with hdmi output. I have over a dozen cables (various lengths) and I definitely tried over half of them to eliminate cable as a source of problem. Still no luck. Though, SDI is working on my camera.

You said you rolled back to 4.0.x and it's still not working. If that is the case, I'd suspect setup or hardware. Please file a technical support request (https://support.red.com/anonymous_requests/new)

Having a weird bug on this new build. Occasionally at random the format/eject dialog box will be unresponsive. The camera won't freeze, but you won't be able to tap the format or eject buttons on the dialog box using the touch screen. You can exit the box and use the camera normally but the only way to get the dialog box to work again is to unplug and re attach the touch screen cable. Anyone else having this issue?

Is there any improvement with this build with the Nikon mount and non-supported lenses such as the Tokina 11-16mm zoom? Any other improvements? thanks.

just installed and everything seems to be ok with the new mini mag, side ssd and reader....
seem to have a strange interference issue with red mote...strange flicker on the lcd touch when the red mote is on and connected....does not show up in footage...and i only see it on the black screen when lens cap is on....
have to say that the new mags are SMALL! smaller then expected...

Bug report:
This has been going through many builds.
When in Playback mode, if something is connected to HDMI port like monitor or Paralinx and the power of monitor/paralinx goes off or HDMI cable is unplugged, the camera switches to live view mode by itself. It's not fun when a director wants to see a playback from the camera and you try to improve something with cables or save battery on HDMI monitor by turning it off or save battery with paralinx, the camera switches to a live view mode. Some directors start panic.
Could that be fixed in future builds?
Thanks,
Alex

I actually think this is a "working as intended" as some people setup cameras and strip them before rolling to save on weight, size, or protection from "danger". It might be however a feature to switch on and off in the future.

Being able to roll the dragon back from this firmware would be great, but currently that's not possible. I hope that changes with future builds, just incase a release build turns out to be overly buggy, like this one.
