  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon / Epic / Scarlet Camera Release Build v5.1.34

Now on 5.1.35 and hdmi is still not working....:(

My HDMI stopped working on build 4.0.12. I tried various refresh rates, cables, monitors, updated to 4.0.18 and HDMI still didn't work. Then I didn't use the camera for a couple of months, and turned it back on recently to find that HDMI started working again.

Can you add support for the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4? (Canon version)
+1

But does such a profile give us anything more than the lens-name in metadata? The lens works great on my Scarlet so far and there is no AF, what are you missing?

What did support say when you sent in a log file? There are no known HDMI issues in 5.1.x
Sorry, I have been very busy on location and mostly on the road since. Just got back yesterday

Support got back saying they are not seeing any specific errors present in the log file, and are recommending having the camera sent in for further evaluation by your Technicians at this time. However, I have a feature coming up Feb 9th and I stay in Nigeria, I'm dead sure it won't make that production if I send it in. Additionally, its going to cost me between $400 - $500 to send it support and back to Nigeria. I decided to get Paralinx Crossbow for almost the the same amount it takes to send in the camera for evaluation. Besides, I just thought the evaluation can be handled when I send it for my Dragon update.

Is the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 not spported? I just started getting notifications on my Epic and want to see if I have to just clean my contacts.

it is. Use it all the time.

I've noticed similar things… Every time I attach an electronic lens -- Tokina 11-16 v1, EF17-55, EF "Nifty" 50 1.8 -- it says "unsupported lens attached" on boot-up, even though I was under the impression pretty sure all three of those lenses have been mapped. Aperture and distances seem to be working, but it still gives the warning.

Is there an updated supported lens list somewhere?

Manual focus with Canon lenses will give you the focus range and you should have electronic iris control. Fully supported lenses will also work with autofocus.
The list in the operations manual gets updated when new lenses are added.

Went in to use my new CF Dragon with the frame summing and frame averaging functions as usual
and couldn't find them in the usual Record menue drop down where they use to be.
Any suggestions where to look or have these functions been removed?

Is there any improvement with this build with the Nikon mount and non-supported lenses such as the Tokina 11-16mm zoom? Any other improvements? thanks.

Thanks for the update. I tested nikon tokina 11-16 with my epic and I have strange problem. When I switch magnify, playback or recording the iris is closed and the lens disconnected. I tested nikon 17-35 2.8 and it work perfectly.

Wait to the next update?, or is my lens only?

I back to v4.0.18, Tokina 11-16 and nikon 17-35 work perfectly.

I had this same problem on a shoot this week with Tokina 11-16. After each take it would default adjust to fully closed iris, and not stay open unless I re-seated the lens.

But otherwise I'm very happy to see Nikon lenses getting attention! Thanks Red!

People should get off this Build ASAP and get on to Build v5.1.35... We lost 1000s of frames shooting 4k HS stuff.

Just a freindly heads up!

PS love the ability to strip down the menus

Hi Michael. Do you have a solution for the problem with the lost frames so i can fix it?

Question about Monitor Priority in this build:

We regularly switch between Touchscreen, SDI, HDMI and EVF with the sidehandle attached in each configuration. The camera doesnt seem to be switching the menus automatically to whatever is plugged in? This had worked in previous builds. For example, if we have the menu/priority set for SDI then pull the SDI and run off HDMI the menus no longer show up. We have to reconnect the SDI, change the priority and then unplug and we get menus on HDMI. This even happens when we plug the touchscreen in and it is not on high enough priority.

One more Monitor control question:
The Auto Hide menu is doing it's thing even when I do not have the button checked in the settings...fyi, Super sketchy not to show a record indicator on screen when you pull up the menu controls when using Auto-Hide (yes I know it's there when the menus finally hide...but just about made me "poo me pants" more than a few times on long record runs when we pulled up the menu from being hidden this past week)

All of this is happening consistently with 2 different Epics. Hoping I'm just not understanding or am missing a setting somewhere.

One more thing, is there a Firmware archive for past firmwares? I had been running a "4." firmware with rock solid results for so long that I hadn't updated until now. It would be great to have access to the firmwares in between.

Cheers,

There is no way for us to determine that an SDI monitor has been unplugged - thus we can't automatically switch the modes in this case. Because of this, the highest SDI monitor in the priority list is effectively a blocker. This would have never worked even in older builds. If you have just an HDMI monitor and LCD then the auto switching by priority should work as expected.

The point of the auto hide menus option is to allow the video (and overlays) more screen real estate in normal operation with the ability to pull the menus up when you need to change a setting. When you bring up the menus it will be on top of the video and associated overlays. I don't think it would make sense for us to shrink the video and overlays down when you pull up the menus and expand it again when they close. Unfortunately, this means some things can be temporarily hidden while the menus are shown.

It might be possible for us just to move the overlay items in this case (which includes the record icon) to ensure they are always visible. We will have to see if this makes sense.

Thanks for this info Trent! So if I keep LCD and HDMI above SDI, something will always get menus if plugged in, correct? ...we must of had it this way in previous builds without realizing it :)

Cool, I totally understand why youre doing what youre doing with the auto-hide and overlays. Just scared me a few times when we brought up the menu and you can no longer see a record icon.

Any reason why the Auto-hide is active even when I am do not have the button checked in Monitor controls? Am I missing a different menu option?

Thanks!
