  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Ronin

hello Willis when is avaiable JOYSTICK PAN/TILT ?

thanks

@luigivaltulini,
that thumb control system is getting re-engineered, I'll post about it as soon as there is more information. There are a lot of accessories in the work, most of it is mind-blowing, can't wait to share with you guys. Thanks for being patient.

@BrockS
I haven't personally tried to plug in a redrock system, but the cmotion 2-channel system works, can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work. Have you tried the port on the opposite side of the breakout box?

I contacted redrock as the base station power LED just flashes rapidly as if it's getting low power. They said anything less than 12.4 isn't enough and will cause it to flash like that. The unit works for a few seconds before shutting off and power cycling, at which point it works a few seconds and starts all over.

SUPER disappointing if this is the case. I will unquestionably be sending it back for a full refund if this indeed doesn't work :( Not sure if 12.4 is common enough for this to be labeled an oversight on DJI's part, or uncommon enough for this to be Redrock's oversight. Thanks so much Willis for the recommendation, i will try it. Does the front and back breakouts have separate, dedicated feeds to the battery?

Anyone else have a red rock?

I have the redrock as well but am waiting on my Ronin from B&H. Hope this is not the case that they are incompatible.

Just got word from our HQ Team that our PTap ports are spec'd at 12.8, so you should be fine. Paul, the Product Manager has a redrock wireless follow focus system there and it appears to be working fine for him. Please let me know if/when you try it again with the other port. I'm getting my hands on a redrock system thanks for @DanKanes to test in the morning, I'll report back.

Well that's great news then! Helps me narrow the issue slightly. Can you ask him if he's getting a solid LED for power or if his flashes constantly?

Also, personal props to you for quick service and info, I'm sure I'm not the only one that appreciates this. I'll try the seperate port on the back first thing tomorrow.

In regards to additional accessories are there any plans to do a redesigned top motor with slip ring to pass PPM up to the flight controller from a lightbridge? This is something I'd like to see, especially if a quick release plate for drone mounting to go with it? I'm currently looking at having a custom CNC plate made to mount to my octo (and using a standard Arca Swiss plate to attach to the default motor) but passing PPM up to the top will mean that the Ronin no longer has infinite rotation.

First impressions of the gimbal are amazing, tuning is damn fast, I think I had it built up and my 5D tuned in 10 minutes. Have to wait to get a more heavy duty camera on board but so far everything is looking rosy!

bluetooth ronin

bluetooth ronin

We recieved ours last friday and still have not been able to connect the ronin to bluetooth on any of our teams phones.

Has anyone had success with the iPhone app connecting it? It's incredibly well built just want to use it

Hi Guys,

I picked up my Ronin today, the very first one to leave a dealer in Germany (I believe, at least the first one from 1 of the 2 dealers )

After the first bit of setup, and the first simple tests, I'm beginning to like it - build quality, the app, overall quite nice.

I had just asked this on Peters thread, but realize it probably fits much better in this one - I have a little issue, and would
like to hear from others if this is common, or if I picked up a bad copy or something.

When I move the handles rather quickly from side to side in the roll axis, the camera (Blackmagic Cinema Camera in this test,
with a cage, weighing in at about 5 Kgs) will start to wobble, mostly in the pan axis. Notice that this happens only with movement
in the roll axis, both other axes can be rocked like crazy and it will stay stable. Also, it will happen regardless of follow mode on
or off, and regardless of briefcase mode enabled or not.

I have done very careful balancing in every axis, and double checked it (as a steadicam op I'm familiar with how important proper balance is).

During this sort of quick movement of the handles in the roll axis, curiously the pan motor registers high power levels,
and if continued for a few seconds, the motors will shut off for a few moments as described in the manual as the safety stop.

Does anyone else notice this correlation of handle rocking in the roll axis with instability?

Thanks for your replies and all the best

Hi Jonathan, mine connects without any problems to my iPhone 5S with latest iOS and latest DJI Assist App. Have you got the latest App version?

I have noticed this, however it doesn't bother me particularly because under normal operation it's highly unlikely you'll ever trigger this to happen. Playing with the stiffness settings on the yaw and roll seems to help a bit.

Hi Cal,

thanks a lot for your reply, that does give me the first little peace of mind. No, I don't think under "normal" conditions you might trigger it, yet if you use it in rough conditions like on a car with bungees at higher speeds or offroad, or in a helicopter in a more action oriented type of flight scenario, I fear it might be a bit of an issue, so I look forward to more comments of others, especially also Ketch or Peter who have tested it more thoroughly so far, on this!

This thing is great! I can't believe how smooth the footage is, even at a full out sprint. It is built really well and seems to be designed in a very intelligent manner. We had a few hiccups because we didn't use the lens support, but once we (read the instructions) and did it correctly, it's been great with a Canon DSLR and a GH4. We are going to put the Epic on it next and see how it behaves with the RedRock follow focus.

It's a phenomenal tool! Thanks for all your help Willis.

I ordered mines from B&H 3 weeks ago. I hope it comes before the 8th. I can use it on a shoot in Florida

I noticed B&H switched there expected shipping on the Ronin product page from Early August to Mid August, not sure if its due to a delay/supply shortage or if it's a estimation of shipping for new buyers.

Our Ronin arrived today, first impressions are very positive...it works as advertised, and at $3k is a great bargain.

Now all we need is a machinist to produce a piece to mount this to our jib...any takers?...and some accessories.

Is anyone else having problems getting the camera bottom plate to fit into the Ronin baseplate? We can't get it to fit, ours is about 1/8" to wide to slide into the tray.

Any thoughts? We can try to sand down the metal, but that would be a bit of a bummer.

Our Ronin can't fly until the plate is fitted.

Talked with DJI, they couldn't help fix the problem, instead told us to call AMP.
