  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Ronin

Is anyone else having problems getting the camera bottom plate to fit into the Ronin baseplate? We can't get it to fit, ours is about 1/8" to wide to slide into the tray.

Any thoughts? We can try to sand down the metal, but that would be a bit of a bummer.

Our Ronin can't fly until the plate is fitted.

Talked with DJI, they couldn't help fix the problem, instead told us to call AMP.

Are you sure you don't have the receiver locked?
Fits fine here...cant imagine your plate is any different.

Willis any update on the XL arms? I have no solution to use my Red without them.

DITTO...1 battery and no extended arms makes it difficult to actually use the unit.
AMP is saying end of August before batteries ship...thats a long wait to be able to use this on a real job.

What about a V Mount adapter so we can supply one battery to power the Ronin + Epic and accessories.

Freefly makes a v mount plate for the epic but I run Anton bauers. Definitely check out their site. It's $350 I believe

My Ronin arrived today. I was quite surprised by that, since I hadn't paid for it yet :D

Hey Nathan I'm having the same problem. The baseplate doesn't fit in because it's a tiny bit too wide.

thats a disappointment...how could the tolerances be that far off?
I noticed our Roll Adjustment is extremely tight, very hard to adjust and the paint on the scale is already scratched off.

I ordered that, I meant a larger battery for the Ronin itself that could power the camera and accessories rather than having two batteries.

mine is extremely tight but i managed to wiggle it on. I can imagine a bad batch being produced because if mine was even the slightest bit more wide it wouldn't fit. Sorry for your luck =(

Yeah that one i noticed aswell, but when you loose the clamps for the height adjustment, you can slide the roll without a problem.

Mine is on the way home today ! I received my call today. CAnt wait to test

Thanks, that did the trick! Maybe they rushed these to market a bit too fast.

BTW- been playing around with an Epic Package around 12.25lbs...works very well, though I think its about the max you want to go.
Still need a fair amount of accessories before this is ready for a real job though.

Willis, what is the max draw on the PTap box? I would like to consider powering the camera off of that.

I'll snap some pics tomorrow at prep, but I've spent a few days dialing in a complete setup.

I'm running my Carbon Fiber Dragon with a Gold mount plate for camera power and 2 P-tap power outs for a Digital Bartech remote focus and a Paralinx Arrow+ for wireless video... I'm setting up to shoot this week with the rig fully outfitted with Kowa anamorphics, an LMB-5 matte box and filters. I should be pretty close to max weight with the standard arms.

It's the full monty, production mode, but so far, no hitches. I'm now just learning what all of the settings for speed, smoothing, trim, acceleration, ect do and where is optimum...

Looking forward to this!

I set up the Ronin with my Epic-X, Paralinx Arrow, RedRock wireless FF, 5" Red Touch and 16mm f2 Rokinon lens (non cinema EF mount). I have to say that this rig is a dream come true. It handles well, the cable clutter is at a minimum, the wireless systems work well and the stability and smoothness are remarkable. I feel like my capabilities are so far beyond what they were a few days ago. I'm running RedVolts and though we all know they only get about 25-30 mins run time, that seems totally doable for me because this is not a rig I'm going to be holding for 5 hours a day anyway. This is more of a specific setup sort of deal and at least for me I think the RedVolts will work just fine. I don't know why others are having trouble swapping them, I don't have to move anything and I am able to open the battery door with no issues whatsoever. A battery change takes me 5 seconds. I am running an ultra thin and flexible 24" LCD cable to the handlebar mounted LCD and it seems to have no effect on the operation of the gimbal. It's like the machine doesn't care at all. I will move to Paralinx+ soon, but I don't really know if I have a need to use that instead of the cable. It's really not a big deal. The RedRock does have its power light blinking all the time as if the voltage were too low, but it doesn't seem to affect the performance. Hopefully DJI or RR can figure that one out. Have I said this rig is spectacular? Because it is. It is definitely heavier than the GH4 rig I set up (with an iPad as the monitor) but it doesn't feel way heavier. It feels manageable for sure. Let's get out there and shoot!

What battery options to power the RED are there that will work with the Ronin?

I was looking at getting the REDVOLT XL MODULE. Cant tell if theres room for this?

Then I see most pics of the Ronin or other gimbals there using the side mount V not sure if its the freely mouthing kit.

And I have seen few have a long cable and battery on there belt.

If the best is the side mount what size is been working best?

I see few people talking about XL arms, is there more info about them and what more are using them for or there needs for them are?

Thanks
