• Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Ronin

To everybody concerned about their pre-orders. I just got word that all backorders should be fulfilled by the middle of August.

Impressive. My unit is sitting in customs while they fluff around with something, was really hoping to have it for the weekend but thats not going to happen now.

I am going to vent on here for a couple of seconds so please forgive me.

DJI are showing an absolute disregard for UK buyers of the Ronin. From what I hear from the distributors, they refuse to give up to date information, and have to be chased around for days before even short emails are replied. I have just heard this morning that they sent only 5 units to their major U.K supplier. From the info on here, AMP received a significant consignment a few days/a weeks ago.

Let me say here - we do not pay less for the product than our American cousins. To be treated like second class citizens (as an afterthought) is really rude. i have been reading this thread for sometime about DJI's customer service, and they have tried to argue they do a decent job. But even their distributor in the UK is frustrated with them.

DJI - I don't know if anyone from the company is reading this - but you guys need to do better. It's one thing to create a product, its quite another to develop a good reputation and deliver good customer service.

I cannot wait to order one! Amazing work.

Thanks Jason. I'm specifically looking for amps or total watts.

It has been stated that you cannot run the camera off of the ptap. It's low, like 6v or something, which the epic needs at least 12. Maybe this could be changed with firmware.

Thought I would post this to see if I can get support. This is the message from my employee who has been reaching out to DJI because our Ronin will not connent to any of our bluetooth apps and is not functional. She is the sweetest so I know she started out extremely nice before things escalated. Message my employee sent me about communication with DJI:

---
I just got off the phone with them... practically yelling at them to fix/trouble shoot our Ronin. I wouldn't take no for an answer and told them about the video review we are making and how it's not going to look good if we can't get anyone to help us for a week straight... They said nobody in North America could help us right now. Not a single person. They didn't even have a Ronin available and refused to let me take it into their office. I said they definitely would not be getting our business and express how we are one of the larger reseller/leasers for post/production equipment in Los Angeles. They decided after multiple calls, emails, and going up the chain to give me support from China, however it is the weekend in China so I'm waiting to hear back. In the meantime I will try to have the guys fix it.

I think this is unacceptable even during this period of mass distribution. Dealing with distributors for the last 10 years with new product releases I have never seen something like this. A product is only as good as its support and we have had this product for 7 days without any resolution. The fact that we were blatantly told we can not help you by multiple employees of DJI is just crazy.

I just don't understand DJI. There are only so many reports of poor service you can sweep under the carpet. and to treat a distributor in this way - it is unbelievable.

To make it clear we aren't a DJI authorized distributor we purchased it through Ariel however we have shown interest in distributing for them and distribute for many other related companies/products (blackmagic, woodencam, etc)

I'll let your know how the support progress goes. The build quality of the Ronin is incredible and a great value and hopefully with this products incredible initial success propels them to train a knowledgeable support staff. It just is unfortunate we are going to have to rent a MOVI this weekend instead of getting to use our Ronin which arrived a week ago.

Received my Ronin today from Production Gear ( great service ). Took 10 minutes to balance first time, and it's only going to get faster. Very intuitive.

Hi Willis,

I have a project coming up later this month and it's likely going to be the thing to get me to pick up a Ronin.

Question though. Is there a way/what is the best way to securing attach the Ronin to a 100mm ballhead?

Thank you sir.

Okay - super quick tips on connecting to the Ronin with your iPhone:

1. Make sure you have the very latest DJI assistant app from the app store.

2. Turn on bluetooth on the phone (app theoretically does this on its own, but if you are having trouble and trying to get it going)
3. You may need to give DJI assistant access to your bluetooth connection depending on your iphone version and security settings.
4. DON'T look for a Ronin bluetooth device.

5. DO power on your Ronin by holding the power button in for 3 seconds or so.

6. Please Open your app on your phone.

7. You will need to generate a DJI.com Login if you don't have one already. This is required in order to Login to the App and make it work, can be automatic after first time.

8.After that you should be able to find your Ronin, connect to it, and start tuning.

There is also a Ronin Assistant app for Windows if you're into that sort of thing, and I'm guessing that it requires a USB cable to connect to the Ronin... Haven't used it myself yet.

Hope that helps!

If I get a Ronin I'll make a tutorial video.

This "mini-guide" was brought to you by a phone call between me and some Ronin Owners, and my patience and curiousity for these things - since I'm not in a desparate situation about to try to shoot something with no time to prep the Ronin for the shoot ;)

And one more joke for those who like that sort of thing:

"To make it clear we aren't a DJI authorized distributor we purchased it through Ariel however we have shown interest in distributing for them and distribute for many other related companies/products (blackmagic, woodencam, etc)"

Ariel spends most of her time in the Ocean not up in the Air, at least according to that Mermaid Movie I saw as a kid... are you thinking of Aerial Media Pros? those dudes have pretty dope phone support from my brief experience with them.

Okay - promise me no one gets mad about that - it's just a joke trying to add a little levity.

Just got our Ronin. What an amazing peace of gear.

Seems to be one of the first here in Germany, although we haven't been part of the GB.

Hey Guys,
Got my Ronin a couple of days ago and everything looks great so far.
Noob or cook question of the day:
Do you manage to balance the camera when the Ronin is switched off?
When off and on stands my Ronin is all twisted as it is in the AMP unboxing video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho-i1Jcbwgw) so when I slide the camera on it, lens is pointing down and camera isn't leveled at all.
As soon as I powered the Ronin, everything is centered and ok then I if switch off the rig, camera goes back in this funky position which is a bit scary as it seems that the lens will it the ground.
