Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Don't forget about the PL tilt-shift lens from Lensbabies!

From the pictures I've seen, the lens seems to have massive edge blur. Are there some samples from this lens that show clarity through the entire picture?

If the blur is always going to be there, then the lens could have some uses for dream sequences and such, but for practical documentary I think it would be limited. It would also be a pain to use the lens once the Birger ships because it would require switching between the Birger/PL mounts every time. Then again, I suppose the resale value of the Lensbaby PL mount would be better than the resale of the Nikon dumb mount.

Argh, this quandary would be so much easier to solve if the Birger would ship right away!

When you get your Birger, you sell the 3GPL (and if you liked it, you buy the EF version). At $490, the 3GPL is the cheapest way to get your camera rolling while you're waiting for the Birger. And, like you said, it's a lot easier to sell a PL lens than it is to sell a proprietary Nikon dumb mount :greedy:

That's the purpose of a lensbaby:

Lensbaby™ SLR lenses bring one area of your photo into sharp focus, with that Sweet Spot™ surrounded by gradually increasing blur. You can move the Sweet Spot to any part of your photo by bending the lens.

Janusz Kaminski used it to great effect in "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly".

aqua, in your signature it says you have the birger mount and FF for rent. How much? I'll rent it from you right now.

$8,000/day, $24,000/week send a wire transfer (PM me for wire info) and I will ship it out on thursday.

I suffer from premature signaturation. My old signature said my RED would be available in November (I left a month and a half cushion from the posted ship date) and of course I didn't actually get it until January.

Hi Mike

You do not mention if you have received your mount ;-) I assume it's not with you ! If you do not have one, I assume the suggested 'beta' testers never did get theirs, as it would have hammered out any s/w issues by now.

And still no news from Erik ... ??? I hear you about being a 2 man team, but it's been 6+ months now ...

As I've mentioned before, I hope we will not require extensive support.
I consider myself lucky that I ordered a Canon mount ... I wish the Nikon guys LOTS of patience.

RED have given us 48 hours notice for Build 16 beta, wish it was the same for the Birger mount ;-)

Cheers

I think I can go out on a limb and give 23.5 hours notice, worst case 47.5 hours.

That'd be great. But be warned: the Birger tree is perilous, and many who have ventured out on its branches have fallen flat on their coal-mining asses.

symptom:premature signaturation
Possible causes:
1.illusory optimism re:delivery schedules.
2.Proximity to PC.
3.Participation in REDUSER
4.Servitude to mankind to spread democracy and peace across globe.
Rx:
not available in USA.(Some anxiolytics are approved in Canada and freely available South of the border without prescription.)
(not approved by FDA)

23.5 hours to the next delay? I guess that sounds about right. Although we won't find out about it for another couple weeks. ;-)

Sorry to be so glib. I sure hope you're right, Mike. I'm rooting for you, Erik!!!

Have you ever noticed that Erik and Aqua are never in the same room together? Maybe Aqua is Erik's underwater alter ego.

Or in the Fight Club? :)

Things are happening over at P+S Technik - looks like their Universal Mount will start shipping in 2 weeks. And they lowered the price substantially. You can now swap the mount yourself.

And they will try to work with Birger, so that their Universal Mount will also accommodate the IMS. So, for anyone that has to shoot in the nearer future, this might be a very good option - you can use all your Canon lenses, and once the Birger does get out, you can decide if you want to add the Birger, or you can sell the IMS.

The Future is Bright.

Is that starting now, or starting when the mounts are ready to ship at some point in the distant future?

now 16.5 hours, I'm expecting a fedex by 10:30 tomorrow.
