Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Renting

Renting

I've had a RED 18-50 from Indie Rentals for almost a week. works great, it's fun to try it out, so that I have a frame of reference.

so while we are waiting...

We need lenses that have autofocus motors and cam stabilization to get max value from birger mount? So am i right in saying that some of the high end canon lenses that people have been suggesting here don't have that ability?
So what is the ideal lens set considering function verses quality.

Know I'm really getting into this game late, but does anyone have clarification on two points regarding the.... (cue angelic choir...) the Birger EF lens mount:

1) Current prox shipping dates (is it already shipping, for all I know?)

and

2) The reservation form gives conflicting dates for the free Bluetooth controller order... mid-way down the pdf form it mentions Nov 2007, but further down it lists Nov 30, 2008 (which I'm hoping for!).

Would love to see what the little gem looks like, too: Is it exactly like the EFS232 project, or perhaps a bit more streamlined?

Hope these questions are not TOO redundant... but at 85 pages this thread has become a bit unwieldy!

quick update...

quick update...

Just want to give everyone a quick update... the phone calls are really detracting from our ability to get things done...

New boards for the Canon lens mount came in on Saturday. The vacuum valve on our pick and place machine has been flaky the past few weeks. We ordered a new one last week, but this part only exists in switzerland at the company headquarters, which was closed all week through today for Holy Week. We are able to run single boards, not production, until we get the replacement later this week.

Meeting with software engineer on saturday included a demonstration of all of the changes that we have been waiting for to be able to release the new boards.

Our machine shop is two weeks behind schedule. We have in the past six months gone from being a consumer of the low hundreds of parts per month, to having deliveries scheduled on the order of hundreds of parts per week. Machine shop is having some minor growing pains. My next batch of parts is headed for plating on wednesday, followed by a stop at laser engraving, we should have them in house by Monday of next week. Fortunately, they have combined two shipments... so part number 200 is only a few days late.

On Monday we should be able to start assembling 200 Canon lens mounts. I believe we will have all remaining materials in house by that date. Our production capability is about 50 units/day.

The final RED specific mechanical parts are being made in the next few days, so they should line up with shipments wearly next week.

There have been some hangups with the knob and availability of one of the critical components. We expect to have the missing parts later this week.

If necessary we will offer the option to take delivery of the mount before the knobs, as there is the ability to do the collimation with a PC, and to control the iris from the RED camera adapter itself.

PLEASE STOP CALLING. WE HAVE IMPORTANT WORK TO FINISH!

Do not plan any important shoots using our mount until I announce that the first one has shipped. All will ship within ten days of the first.

On the first day of NAB I will announce the schedule for the remote controls and the Nikon mount.

Lastly, the free remote offer will remain open until NAB opens, so I (and you) don't have to worry about potentially lost reservations and associated phone calls.

weeeeeeeeeee - Thanks Erik!!!!!

Erik,

Thanks for the clarification(s). Amazing timing!

(Thank the gods I bricked my iPhone this morning--I swear I was dialing Birger when it died.)

:) Looks like it worked in getting us an official update!
Thanks for the update Erik, I have just one request: Think of all of us not going to NAB and do your best to get the mounts out to us before the show so everything doesn't get postponed yet another week.

Erik, Many many thanks for the update. I feel badly, I did call last week. Never again! I promise. I am extremely hopeful about the mount; a thousand thanks for all of your work.

reservation...

reservation...

So where do I find out how to register? The Birger site is severely lacking and obviously there's no way I'm going to get anyone to answer the phone. Not that I would call anyway :)

I seem to remember a form that was at the beginning of this thread. Is that the form I should use? Or has another method been established somewhere in this massive thread?

Thanks for any help you can give, and rock on Eric and the whole Birger team!!

yeah, stop calling guys and use your speed dials for something more important... like American Idol or something. :)

HaHaHa, I feel your pain,

Do those of us that haven't called get bumped up the list? :sarcasm: Maybe you should set up a 1-900 number... Thanks for updating us, you've taken on quite a challenge and it sounds like you / your company is very close to achieving success.

Eric, thanks for the update!

I seem to remember a form that was at the beginning of this thread. Is that the form I should use?

Yes, use this form and send by fax.

I only hope it is true. . . that would be amazing.

I REALLY need that mount.

Stephen

You should stop giving exact dates and times for anything. That is the biggest problem. You have been giving dates for the last 9 monts and as soon as things fall behind, people start calling and try to hold you to the dates you gave on the forum. Always pad your times because nothing in this world comes in time.

All of the same is true with RED - (look at their Nikon dumb mount - shipping Soon!!!! even though two end users managed to make them in a weekend) Seems to be the nature of the beast.
