  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Like Thorpe, I'm sort of late to the current info game where the Birger is concerned. A couple of late-to-the-party questions: Is there still a hardwired option for follow focus like the one that was proposed by Birger long ago, or has that been shopped out to Viewfactor? Is is possible to simply use this mount, cine-mod some Canon EFs, and use a readily available follow focus as opposed to waiting for the Viewfactor?

Thanks,
Hop Litzwire

Yes it is. Electronic focus can be wired or wireless with the Impero. Or switch lens to manual (if not full time manual type) and use third party follow focus with cinemod focus rings. The mount allows you to set iris in either case.

Impero soon???

Impero soon???

the usual repeated yet still unanswered question...

when are the remotes going to go out.

Would love to have the Impero? Second that and can't wait. Sometime after NAB was the last I heard. Saw the video Jay made. Looks like a beautiful thing.

The ET lightweight bracket is beautiful and works with the Birger Canon mount even without a 90 degree lemo. Though you'll have to remove the bracket to remove the lemo this way. Not a big deal for me since I always have the Birger plugged in and removing the bracket takes 1 minute.

let's start an impero thread and see if we can break the birger mount's record! lol.

There already is an Impero/Inclino thread and there's already been an awful lot of complaining there. There's nothing Erik can do it about it so posting here doesn't really make sense to me.

Birger Imperos

Birger Imperos

The fedex man brought me a box from ViewFactor this morning... The units I received today are production Imperos with release candidate software. I need to do some testing, and Ken needs to get Impero software updating capability into the MAC/PC apps. I think we will have a good understanding of the shipping schedule on Monday, when we will start shipping.

I am in a good mood now, please don't punish me for giving an update, by ringing us on the phone to ask when your Impero will be arriving. As soon as we know when a given customer's Impero is ready for shipping, we will email him to settles his account.

Holy Crap! I didn't see this coming. Wahoo! Good Luck with the testing!!!

Thanks for keeping us updated. That should keep the phone from ringing.

Excited and looking forward to the Impero.

I've got a friend that is looking to buy your mount, what is the current shipping to get a Birger mount? Once ordered how long will it take to get one?

I can't get my mount to recognize a lens... any lens... It does connect to bluetooth.
Anybody have this issue? Resolved?

Birger Impero Update

Birger Impero Update

I am really happy with the feel of the Impero now. The bugs that popped up at the NAB demo are fixed. Curt recently doubled the resolution of the knob to 8K counts per revolution, and this really makes a difference. I am only going to send a couple of units out today/tomorrow to Beta sites. There is one change that we requested from Curt in the bootloader, that will hold up shipment for a day or two. This change relates to software updating, and can not be deployed in the field. We are just about there. As soon as we get this fix tested out we will be able to start shipping.

Hmmm... that sounds like it might mean Imperos that Curt just recently shipped to customers would have to be updated back at View Factor. It's good to hear the resolution increase is working well.

Just to clarify... the existing units will talk to Birgers, and upgrades are possible using the radio connection. The change is needed to allow software upgrade over a cable rather than the radio. Our PC/MAC applications upgrade all devices attached to the mount, but the radio on the mount has a single inbound connection. This connection is already being used by the MAC/PC.

I ordered 200 Imperos, so I get to have a feature or two exactly the way I want it.

Sounds great, excited now, the complete total package will be a wonderful thing.

Hoffman, I have the same issue with my "first-run" mount. Erik has acknowledged this issue (assuming it's the same problem), and it is supposed to be fixed in the ones shipping now. Is yours an early mount or a replacement?

Collimation tool

Collimation tool

Is there anyway something like this could be created for the Birger mount.

http://www.abelcine.com/store/product.php?productid=1001394&cat=858&page=1

Since the Birger adjustment is internal, instead of external, could something be made that had "teeth" or something that fastened to the Birger adjustment ring? The optical collimation "lens" itself could be then turned to make the adjustment.
Possible? Practical?
